Fashionista Friday: Sporty Chic Inspiration

Filed under: Fashion, Mom Life · February 28, 2019

Can you believe that it is March already? I can’t. The only thing that I can say is that I am super excited about Spring Break. But other than that the days are going by a little too fast for me. Well March is Women’s History month so I wanted to kick off the month with a few of my favorite quotes from a few of my favorite badass women entrepreneurs. Did you know that Women’s History month traces all the way back to the first International Women’s Day in 1911? In 1978, the school district of Sonoma, California participated in Women’s History Week but it wasn’t until 1987 that congress designated the month of March as Women’s History Month. Salute to all of the amazing women that came before us and let’s continue to uplift and support the amazing women in our lives. What are some of your favorite quotes?

“Nothing beats a failure but a try”

Rosemary J.

“You get in life what you have the courage to ask for”

Oprah Winfrey

“Beauty begins the moment you decide to be yourself”

10 Things you might not…..

Filed under: Mom Life · November 19, 2018

Happy Monday Mommas! I hope that you all had an amazing weekend. I thought it would be fun to share 10 things that you probably don’t know about me. I mean who is this Sporty Momma? Ok here we go…

  1. I am an over thinker.
  2. Even though I have a southern accent (this was pointed out to me in high school, thanks Christina), I was born and raised in Miami, FL.
  3. I love seafood. I can live off of shrimp and salmon and water.
  4. I used to be on a dance drill team called Gablettes in high school.
  5. Even though I have had a t-shirt line for 8 years, I hate selling. So please buy a tee!
  6. If I could live any place in the world it would be Hawaii.
  7. My dream job is to work in television one day.
  8. I can watch the movie Brown Sugar over and over and over again.
  9. My current musical obsession is Ella Mai.
  10. I have loved being on both sides of the camera since I was 10 years old. I still have pictures in the old disposable Kodak cameras under my bed at my mom’s house. LOL! But I guess that may explain my love for IG. Sidebar follow me @SportyMommas

And there you have it. A little more insight on who I am and what I love. Did any of these surprise you? I hope that you have a fabulous week.

XO,

Sharonda

The Best Last Minute Party

Filed under: Mom Life · April 24, 2018

Do you have a hard time planning parties for your kids? I use to love party planning. I loved it so much that I wouldn’t really let anyone help me. But I realized that the older the kids got, the busier their schedules got and well I am the one running around like a chicken with my head cut off. So about two years ago I hired a party planner. It was very cool, but very expensive. Since it was my oldest 10th birthday we went all out to celebrate her turning “double digits”!

Well this year I said no party because well how can I say this ……I am exhausted. (That’s a whole different blog post.) However, my very intelligent child creatively found a way to convince her dad to have a party. He said yes, so I told him that he could throw the party. Yep, I sure did! You probably all know how that went.   The closer we got to the date I had to take over and get shit done. Thanks to a charity bowling event that we attended late last year, I remembered that King’s Bowl was really cool and would make the perfect party place for Tweens! So we took a little trip to Doral to scope the place out. My daughter loved it, the date was available and now all we had to do was pray that the attendees wouldn’t mind the 25 minute drive north.

When we arrived, Jewels our server for the evening helped me get everything out of the car. By the time that I paid the valet, he had the balloons perfectly arranged in our private party area. All we needed to do next was to display the favors and bunny’s cupcakes. I had to get vegan and gluten free treats for some of the kids with food sensitivities. (So if you ever need special treats Bunny’s Cakes will not disappoint.) Everything was good to go 20 minutes before our guests arrived so we headed outside for a mini photoshoot.

The guests started arriving right on time. The music was pumping and thanks to the big screen tv’s we were able to watch the end of the Miami Heat playoff game. It was the perfect party place. Everyone kept commenting on the location and how cool the private party room was. The disco balls and strobe lights gave it the perfect touch. All I had to do was mingle and smile! I even got to dance with some of my favorite Sporty Mommas.

The party was a blast. The girls had a great time. They crushed the pizzas and drinks as soon as they came out. I could not keep enough food on the displays (growing kids) Most importantly I didn’t have to work to hard. Jewels made sure that we had everything that we needed. Including a King’s-Tini for momma! We ended up with over 40 kids plus a few parents. I was glad that I didn’t have to clean up afterwards.   My daughter was all smiles and actually said thank you. That’s what mattered the most. So if you ever need a last minute party place, King’s Bowl is the bomb!

Fun Facts

Filed under: Mom Life · January 3, 2018

This year I pledged to live authentically, bold, live life to the fullest, silly, fun and free to be …. ME! So I thought it would be fun to kick off 2018 with a few fun facts about me. There’s more but I will save some for my book! (The one I have been trying to write for 2 years) So here we go.

  1. I’m the oldest of two siblings born and raised in Miami, FL.
  2. My dream job was always to be in show business or entertainment. I always wanted to be a model and actress but I was told that I was too short. (So if there are any agents reading this, inbox me please)
  3. I LOVE butterflies.
  4. I was born with congenital scoliosis and had a life changing surgery when I was 17.
  5. I struggle with being consistent.
  6. I am a Cancer. #almost40
  7. I could eat seafood every night especially shrimp.
  8. I taught elementary school for 5 years before becoming a WAG/SAHM/WAHM.
  9. I have lived in Miami most of my life but thanks to MLB I got to live in Minnesota, Oakland, and Toronto for a while.
  10. I love my husband and three kids more than anything in the world.

This is my favorite time of the year.  The weather is slowly changing. I repeat slowly changing. The time change sucks but after a few days you get use to it. Starbucks rolls out their holiday menu and Santa’s Enchanted Forest reopens so you know Christmas is almost here. My calendar does get a little hectic these last two months of the year.  Between the kid’s sports activities, school functions and play dates, don’t forget the play dates, some days are definitely longer than others. Then there’s all of the fun holiday parties, fundraisers, and networking events. Yes, it can get a little cray cray but I love it. And yes, I get overwhelmed sometimes but I have learned that if it is not aligned with my soul to just say no.

When all of the invitations start coming in, the first question that usually pops up is what am I going to wear? I usually head to Zara. They never disappoint. Sometimes the lines can be super long but I have learned that if you go before the lunch rush, it’s not that bad. I also have noticed that the prices seem to be going up. It still isn’t as bad as some stores but be prepared. Most of the time I am in a hurry so I just buy a few different outfits and pray that at least one of them works out. (They always work out #shopaholic)

On Thursday, FemCity Miami celebrated the launch of the Fall Collective Edition at Kendra Scott in Brickell City Centre. I was feeling very festive and bold so I bought a bright red dress. Everyone loved my dress so I thought that I would share the details.  You won’t believe that it was under $30. So, if you are looking for a cute affordable outfit for an upcoming event check I highly recommend Zara! Happy Shopping!

BlogHer17

So it’s 2 days away from BlogHer17 and I am freaking out! This is my first blogger conference and I am so excited, a little nervous and well did I say excited? Last year my friend tried to convince me to go to blogHer16 in L.A. but I didn’t want to fly nor was I ready to take the official leap into the blogger hemisphere. Here we are a year later and I am taking that leap. (Yayyyyy)  This morning I woke up questioning if I was really ready? Then came, what do I wear? Will I know anyone? Will I learn anything? Will they like me? Is this the direction that I want to go? What do I wear? Is this the right time? What do I wear?  Yes I think I am obsessing a little too much over what I should wear. But really what do you wear to a conference with thousands of ladies? And shoes I need cute but comfy shoes for all of the standing around and mingling.

There is a crazy lineup all three days.  And I got into the speed dating where it’s invite only and you get 90 seconds with some of the top brands. Yes I am freaking out.  I am also really looking forward to seeing Chelsea Clinton and meeting Serena Williams. Yep, I am putting out into the Universe that I am going to meet Serena this weekend. I cannot wait to share my tips and meet all of the incredible women that will be there this year. If you are thinking about taking that leap and stepping out of your comfort zone all I can say is dive in. If you are waiting for the right time, guess what? There will never be a perfect time. #letsdothis

P.S.  Here are  a few styles that I like. What do you think?

#SummerFun

Filed under: Mom Life · June 19, 2017

Last week the Stew Crew and I loaded up the truck and headed up to Dolphin Mall for a day of fun. We were super excited to see all of the new stores and restaurants that opened since our last visit. And yes we needed to get our last minute Father’s Day gifts for the Sporty Dads in our lives. Our first stop was breakfast at Cabo Flats. Cabo Flats is a cool Mexican restaurant that is known for their Salsa Nights. Yes, you can go learn how to Salsa at Dolphin Mall.

IMG_5182

After breakfast we had a few hours to shop. The kids got to pick a few stores to go in. Momma got her shop on too. We were quick enough to grab a few gifts and a little something for ourselves. Game Stop, Neiman Marcus, GAP, Foot Locker and Victoria’s Secret were a must.

IMG_5187

Next, we met the other Mommy bloggers and their kiddos at Cool de Sac! All of the kids had a blast. It was a great time to wine down and enjoy a little lunch while the kids got to play. Cool de Sac is a great spot for busy moms to connect, watch the kids play and enjoy healthier meal options. Oh and they have WINE!!!! They have a toddler area, mini playground and computer game station for those video game junkies. The Stew Crew had so much fun that they did not want to leave.

IMG_5190

But the fun didn’t stop there. Next up was bowling at Bowlero which also offers laser tag. We chose to bowl and the competition was fierce with those bumpers y’all! After an early lead I ended up coming in third place. It was fun though and the kids can’t wait to go back.

So if you are looking to do some really cool stuff with the kiddos this summer, head on over to Dolphin Mall. There’s definitely something for everyone and you can stay cool and dry in this crazy Miami weather.  We ate, shopped and played til we dropped. #naptime

Back to Reality

Filed under: Mom Life · August 20, 2016

The summer has come and gone and well, I guess it is time to snap back to reality. We had a great summer though. The kids enjoyed a few weeks of basketball, soccer, and fun camp. We took our annual trip to Atlantis and Disney. (I think I could live in the Bahamas a few months out of the year) I celebrated my birthday all of July until I caught a horrible head cold. That sucked!

I will truly miss sleeping in until 8 a.m. (lol), the late nights watching television and not doing homework five nights a week. I will miss not having to cook. Ok I don’t really cook during the school year either. (I am so happy Grown has a drive thru) But, I am looking forward to a real schedule and having a little more flexibility during the day. Plus I get to have lunch with my mommy friends whenever I want.

Who am I kidding? It is about to be a three-ring circus around here. We have three kids playing soccer. (One on travel team) That means three different practices and three different games. This year basketball is in the rotation too and oh there’s tutoring! Not to mention homework. Yes my least favorite word. Then play dates and games and conferences and PTA meetings and well I am getting exhausted just thinking about it.

Oh well, I am off to get these last few school supplies. And a bottle of wine!

A Day in the Life of a Sporty Momma

Filed under: Mom Life · April 28, 2016

The alarm went off at 7:15 a.m. and no it is not a weekday, it is Saturday! The uniforms were laid out the night before but now I have to get three kids and myself dressed by 8:30 to head to game number one. Okay let me go back, my husband is home and very active in our kid’s lives. I couldn’t do any of the things that I do without his support. Forty-five minutes later the truck is packed and we are ready to roll. Up first is our oldest daughter’s travel soccer game about thirty minutes away from our house. After getting off at the wrong exit we arrived right at game time (they were waiting to for her to start the game). A few of the moms admired my “Sporty Mommas” Hustle Harder tee and how coordinated I was. Lol, they have no idea!

Game number two started at 12:30 back on our side of town. After a quick change of uniforms, we arrived early and even had time to stop at Smoothie King (#winning). I used the warm up time to talk to a few moms in the stands about Beautycounter and my new love for educating women on safer skincare. I watched the first half of the basketball game before heading off to our youngest daughter’s soccer game. She needed to be there at 1:15 for team picture day! Yes we were late! But half of the team didn’t even show up. (Insert sad face) Games number three and four just so happened to be at the same field at the same time so my husband and I ran back and forth to cheer each kid on. By 3:15 I was exhausted but the kids want to go out to eat. After getting gas and depositing two checks from Beautycounter sales we made it home. Most Saturdays are hectic but this was one for the books.

I enjoy every part of being a mom. We all experience good days and those days where you want to go hide in a closet and eat chocolate! The thing that I love even more is watching them grow up and have a loving father at home cheering them on and supporting them just as much as I do.

People ask me all of the time why do I hustle so hard when I don’t have to? I tell them I just love helping and encouraging women to look and feel their best whether its Sporty Mommas apparel and events, Femfessionals or educating them on safer beauty products. As moms we want the best for our kids, so we have to take care of ourselves and let them see us living our best lives!

XO,

Sharonda

One of my favorite fashion hacks is buying matching sets! You can always mix and match the pieces or add a blazer or jean jacket! Most of the time I just rock the set with a nice bag! Do you like matching sets?

Two months ago I decided that I wanted a change. I was tired of how my clothes were fitting and I just didn’t feel good about myself. So I knew it was time to try something different. I decided to invest in my health and wellness. As moms we do so much for everyone else but we don’t always do the same for ourselves. I’m so close to my goal of losing ten pounds (like a pound away 😂) and I’m so proud that I stuck with it!

Here is your sign to invest in YOU and not feel guilty about it! Whether it’s a personal trainer, life coach, therapist or meal plan do whatever you need to do to be your best self!!!
