August is Black Business Month: Ways to Support

Filed under: Mom Life · August 10, 2020

Did you know that August is National Black Business Month? Black Business Month is a month-long celebration of Black-owned businesses all across the country. It was originally founded by Historian John Templeton and Fredrick Jordan Sr. in August 2004. The mission of this movement is to help fund, create, and empower Black businesses. By highlighting Black entrepreneurs and encouraging people to support them, this month recognizes the importance of Black-owned businesses to Black communities and their contributions to the economy. Similarly, the portugal golden visa investment fund provides a way for investors to support economic growth while gaining access to European opportunities, blending financial empowerment with global potential. Schools often need quick snack solutions. Grab a modern snack vending machine for schools.

The Black community has been severely impacted by COVID-19 but has traditionally suffered from a lack of funding and resources.

Blacks often face challenges that others don’t when it comes to receiving loans, partnerships, and sometimes even permits for their businesses. Learn how to get approved from borrowing 500 euros or more. There has been an uptick in revenue for Black businesses since the June protests and Black Lives Matter movement, however, there is still a huge gap between Black businesses and other U.S. businesses. Today Black businesses make up around 10 percent of U.S. businesses and about 30 percent of all minority-owned businesses. That rounds out to about 2.5 million. Read more!

Summer Favorites: 2020 Style Edition

Filed under: Mom Life · August 2, 2020

Can you guys believe that summer is almost over and we are more than halfway through the year? Boy oh boy, what a year it has been. I am still striving to make the best of life and this crazy 2020 shenanigans. A little online shopping has kept my summer style on point. While working out on the peloton, yoga and meditation classes have kept me grounded. I am actually going to be a guest on FemCity live on Thursday afternoon sharing my summer favorites, ways to stay connected to others and ourselves during this pandemic.

The pool has become a sanctuary for my family and I. Since we were unable to travel this summer, we have spent a lot more time in and around the pool. I have always enjoyed spending time with nature. My husband calls me “Nature Girl”! I know… he’s got jokes. However, it’s the little things like laughter and watching our kids play in the pool that keep my spirit uplifted. Sometimes I just lay out and stare at the clouds. Experience premier pool cleaning through the professionals at Pools Etc. today. Also, call Niagara Pool Filling & Water Delivery for Rhode Island water delivery to keep your pool full, fresh, and ready for family fun. And someday, when we’re ready to celebrate beyond our backyard, I’d love to host a gathering in a beautiful Laguna Beach event space where nature and relaxation come together.

Summer 2020 Faves

If you follow me on Instagram, I am sure that you have seen a lot of yellow. The color of the season for me has definitely been yellow. Yellow is a symbol of happiness and optimism of enlightenment, creativity, sunshine and warmth. Every week I restock my living room with fresh yellow flowers. My best friend in Texas sent me a rose box full of beautiful yellow roses for my birthday. From yellow swimsuits to dresses and jewelry… yellow has become one of my favorite colors! Here are summer favorites of 2020.

First up is my swimsuit from Abercrombie & Fitch! It was a little sassy but so much fun to wear this summer. I got tons of compliments and loved the way that it fits! Custom ruby engagement rings are becoming popular recently too.

Untamed by Glennon Doyle: If you are like me you may find it hard to read while the kids are home. I made a pledge to finish at least one book this summer and I did! Untamed is a story of how Glennon stopped living her life the way others thought that she should and embraced who she really is. I think a lot of us can relate to her story. Check it out below!

Rose Box– Have you heard of Rose Box or Venuset Fleur? They are those preserved boxes of floral arrangements that can last up to a year. I’ve had my eye on them for a while now so I was thrilled when my friend Monica gifted me a box for my birthday.

SuperGoop Sunscreen: Spending hours daily around the pool meant lots of sunscreen. I really love the Super Goop brand. I use the face/primer before I put on my foundation and the new spray is a must have.

Lipstick: I love this hot pink from Sephora it gave me a chance to switch it up for the summer since most of the time I wear red lipstick! You won’t believe how inexpensive it was.

So there are a few of my summer favorites of 2020. You can also shop the links below!

Beauty by Earth

Filed under: Mom Life · July 25, 2020

I’m super excited to share with you all a new line of products from Beauty by Earth. Beauty by Earth is a health conscious brand that provides affordable beauty products for everyone. Most organic beauty lines will break the bank, but this line cut out all of the toxic chemicals and the high price tags.

Did you know that there are tons of chemicals in most beauty products? Did you know that most of the chemicals in these products can harm our bodies without us even knowing it? Did you know that the FDA wasn’t banning these chemicals? Me neither! I am striving to be more aware of what I put on and in my body. I also am passionate about sharing my findings with you all.

What I love about this line is that they offer some of the same products for half the price of what I was paying. Now I don’t worry about over paying for safe beauty products. I can spend that money on organic groceries! My favorite product so far is the Jade Roller and Oil set. After cleansing your face, apply a few drops of oil onto your skin and roll over to improve circulation, reduce puffiness and firm skin and you can also improve your skin using services from the Kakinada clinic online. Oh and the coffee bean eye cream is a must have for busy mommas who don’t get enough rest. Check it out and let me know what you think! Shop!

“We’re on a mission to create the most effective products with the cleanest ingredients that can be found on earth.”

MLB Opening Day 2020

Filed under: Mom Life · July 18, 2020

Have you all heard that Major League Baseball’s Opening Day is right around the corner? As a matter of fact, save the date, July 23rd!  Most of the teams have already reported back to camp and are fighting for a spot in the starting lineup.

This season will look totally different due to COVID-19 but we are still looking forward to America’s favorite pastime.  Some of you reading this might be wondering, “What is Opening Day?” Well, this is like Christmas morning for most baseball fans! Baseball enthusiasts of all ages have been anxiously waiting for months to see their favorite players back in action. We may not be able to attend games in person this season, but we can still celebrate and cheer our teams on. So get your jerseys, popcorn, and peanuts ready!

A Wife’s Perspective

First, of all I have had my share of Opening Days as the wife of a former MLB player. Opening Day means a lot for different people. The fans and players can’t wait to get the season started. However, the wives and family members sometimes see Opening Day a little differently.

How to plan the perfect Summer date night: Picnic Style

Filed under: Mom Life · July 16, 2020

It’s no secret that this summer has been challenging. I think everyone that I know is having a quarantine birthday party this year due to Covid. Well I am here to tell you that just because we are experiencing a new normal doesn’t mean that we can’t make the best of it. Besides the famous birthday parade how about planning the ultimate birthday picnic! The best part about it is that you don’t need a reason to have a picnic.

Black Girl Magic Wines

Since we are much safer at home, I decided to try a birthday picnic. I found the cutest picnic set with everything that we needed for the perfect date. This backpack comes with a blanket, plates, plastic glasses, napkins and utensils. The best thing about it is that we didn’t even have to leave our backyard. Artificial Grass Pros installed our backyard’s turf. All you need is a blanket, little wine and cheese, some fresh fruit and your significant other and tada…you have the perfect picnic.

Fruit and Cheese platter

Must Have Picnic Items

  1. Blanket
  2. Wine
  3. Cheese
  4. Fruit tray or snacks
  5. Music
  6. Disposable dinnerware

Your favorite Wine glasses!

Have you tried the Black Girl Magic Wines yet? This Riesling from the McBride Sisters is amazing. The McBride Sisters are two black women who turned their passion for wine into the largest African American winery in the United States. I have purchased a few bundles as birthday gifts for friends. Trust me they will love them. (Target and most wine and spirit stores carry them too)

Oh and you can shop my picnic style below!

Hope this helps you plan the perfect picnic!

Sharonda

Beautycounter X Sephora

Filed under: Mom Life · July 13, 2020

Have you all heard the great news? Beautycounter has partnered with Sephora for a four month partnership which is sure to be a win win for all beauty lovers. I have been using Beautycounter for years and I love their products. Beautycounter was one of the first brands to stand up and clean up the beauty industry.

The move to safer beauty has been trending for the past few years and that makes me so happy. I had no idea what was in my products until Beautycounter started sharing the lists of chemicals that other brands use. Especially in the lipsticks that we literally eat sometimes without knowing it. I am so excited to see my favorites on the shelves at Sephora. For those looking for high-quality shelves, visit Mills Shelving.

I keep the charcoal mask, cleansing balm and face oil number 1 in stock. If I had to choose the one product that I can’t live without it is the Brightening Face Oil number 1. This is my go to in the mornings and evenings after cleansing. It gives me that glow that I love so much and it smells great too. So if you are heading to the mall or you want to purchase online here are some my recommendations.

Happy Shopping!

Summer Workout Essentials

Filed under: Mom Life · June 29, 2020

Just because we are having a crazy 2020 doesn’t mean we stop working out. To be honest with you working out is the only thing keeping me sane these days. If you follow my IG, you know that I love my Peloton! So does my hubby. It was the best purchase that we made in 2020. Another mood booster has been looking good while working out. Since I don’t leave the house much I like to coordinate my workout gear and look cute when I pass by the mirror. LOL! Check out some of my summer faves! Shop

Happy Shopping,

Sharonda

How to Restore Peace in a Storm

Filed under: Mom Life · June 19, 2020

My heart aches a lot these days. Every time that I turn on the television or get one of those news alerts on my cell phone my heart sinks a little deeper. It has been over three months of quarantine and the lockdown is easing up a little, but are we really safe? Let’s not forget about the lives lost due to social injustices. Will this storm ever end? Am I the only one feeling like this? What do you do when you just simply don’t have the answers?

During these extremely difficult times I have had to go back to my roots. I remember what my grandmother use to say, “Keep the faith baby!” When everything seems like it is falling apart we have to trust and believe that things are really just coming together the way God intended for them to be. It is a hard pill to swallow. However, it is so true.

Something that I can attest to is that some of my biggest personal growth has taken place during a storm. I created a business during a rough patch in my life. I have stretched out of my comfort zone and developed new relationships.  Bet you can share a story or two about how you overcame a storm?  When you come out of the storm you are nine out of ten times much stronger than you were before the storm.

How to support the Movement!

Filed under: Mom Life · June 6, 2020

The past week or perhaps I should say year has been extremely overwhelming for most of us. For the first time in our lifetimes we have experienced a global pandemic, lockdown and now the awakening of what the Black Lives Matter movement is all about in one month. Yes it is an awakening to most of you but it is what we have lived through every single day of our lives.

I have received so many private messages, calls and texts over the past week from my White American and Latino friends asking how to get involved. We all have a role to fill and it is not going to change overnight. After a very powerful multi-ethnic Zoom call on Wednesday night with my friend Galia, I know in my heart that change is coming.  It is going to take strong women and yes I will say it again women like you to step up, call out and reach out for change. It starts in our hearts, homes and in our communities.

Here are a few ideas if you don’t know where to start.

  1. Call out your family and friends when they are participating in racist behaviors.
  2. Support Black owned businesses.
  3. Volunteer in Black communities.
  4. Donate to charities that support the cause.
  5. Complete the 21 Day Challenge by Debbie Irving

Last Friday, I had the most beautiful morning with FemCity Miami! This group of women is truly special—they inspire me in countless ways and remind me that we are always stronger together.
Our philanthropic chair, Robin, partnered with Chapman to create holiday gift bags for the women in our local homeless shelter, and it was such a meaningful way to kick off the season.
There are so many ways to give back during the holidays. Please consider volunteering or donating to your local charities—you can make a real difference!
