Be the Change

Filed under: Mom Life · September 28, 2017

It has been 3 weeks post Hurricane Irma and I almost feel back to normal. I must admit it has been a struggle. Every time I drive down the street, I see lots of leaning trees and debris and it is a constant reminder that things are not the same. The days are going by and we have to keep it moving but life as we know it is changing right before our eyes. Call it global warming, political storms, race wars…whatever you want to call it, things are definitely changing.

I am a little overwhelmed with what I have been seeing. I am sure most of you are too. Fear doesn’t really help so I won’t call it that. I think it is more disappointment. I am disappointed in how bad things have gotten in 2017 not just politically but just everything. I am disappointed that our kids will have to experience some things that we never thought they would see except for in a history book or movie. I am disappointed that I cannot fix my son’s illness. I am disappointed that the healthcare industry is failing so many people. It’s not all bad but damn what is really going on?

When I started writing this post I did not know what was going to come out. Last night we went to a charity event to raise money for hurricane relief in Puerto Rico, the Keys, and the Caribbean. It was amazing to see over 300 people come out on a weeknight to help people in need. Ray Allen gave his thank you speech and something that he said struck a nerve to me. He said remember as a kid when a situation would come up either in your community or around the world and you thought to yourself, man they should do something about that. Somebody needs to fix that. Well you are that somebody. We are they. So instead of staying disappointed, let’s do something. Let’s do our part to make the world a better place.

XO,

Sharonda

Smashbox Vs. Too Faced

Filed under: Mom Life · September 18, 2017

If you are a busy momma like me, you know we barely have time to shower some days let alone put on makeup. Well as I get closer to the big 40 I must confess I now make the time to put on my sunscreen and foundation every single day. Mainly because I am trying to hide these tired designer bags ok my “eyes” after nights of minimal sleep. Yes #momlife! I really thought they would sleep through the night by age 11 lol.

That is when I struck up a conversation with my mommy friend that is a makeup artist about what products I should use daily. I know that she’s an expert and has tried hundreds of products over the years on her clients. Her first suggestion was to add a primer to my routine. She says, “ You wouldn’t paint a wall in your house without adding primer first, would you”? Think of your face like a canvas. Hmmm, I thought… I have some of that in my makeup bag. Sephora included a sample of Smash box photo finish primer in my birthday gift box. (frequent VIP shopper) I just never used it lol. So I tried it the next day. Boy what a difference! My skin looked amazing and the makeup lasted all day, even through barre class. It is the number one seller right now!

After using it daily for about a month, my sample tube was almost empty. I headed back to Sephora and there stood a display full of all the bestselling primers. How do I pick with all of these options? I messaged her again because there was so many to choose from and I really wanted to try another one to compare to Smashbox. She said to try Too Faced the hangover. I made my purchase but not before buying a few other things. That store is dangerous. Fragrances, hair products, nail polish and way too many lipstick options.

The next day I applied the Hangover after washing my face and moisturizing. I felt a tightness at first. I started wondering if I was going to have an allergic reaction lol. While reading the ingredients I was shocked to see that it had probiotics, coconut water and skin revivers. Really, probiotics for your face??  Next, I applied my foundation and very minimal eye makeup. I was thrilled to see my new glow. It was like an instant makeover. My skin looked flawless and I got compliments all day.

So if you are not using primer girl don’t feel bad. Just run to Sephora or Ulta ASAP and grab you a tube. You definitely won’t regret it! Too Faced is my new best friend!!! I can’t wait to try a new mascara!

XO,

Sharonda

The Unexpected

Filed under: Mom Life · February 28, 2017

I know that most people see me as the Mom who has it all! The amazing husband that doesn’t mind grocery shopping or packing the kid’s lunches. Three beautiful, smart, kind, and loving kids.  And yes the home of my dreams. Some days are definitely better than others. To tell you the truth the last 3 months have sucked big time. I keep going back asking when did it all begin to take a downward turn or let’s say a more challenging turn and well it was after that crazy election. Yes, November which is normally one of my favorite months turned out to be the month that everything changed.

After the stress of the election and looking at all of the post election drama it really hit me. We are living in some wild times. Little did I know what was coming next. I won’t go into a whole lot of detail but I will tell you that in three months we have lost 3 loved ones unexpectedly. One of our kids came down with a stomach virus that turned into 3 months of visiting different doctors. There have been days of questioning why, why right now, why are we experiencing all of this back to back?

In the middle of all this I have learned who my real friends are. I have also learned that it is okay to ask for help. I know that everything happens for a reason and that this too shall pass. Most importantly I have learned that we go through things so that we can share with others. So in the next few weeks I will share my journey of going through the unexpected.

Favorite Workouts

Filed under: Fit Moms · December 31, 2015

Last April, I was talking with another mom of 3 and I noticed that her body had changed a lot since the last time I saw her. (Especially her booty) I asked her what was she doing. Her response, she used the ballet bars to get her pre-baby body back. I knew I had to try it out for myself. I was a little nervous because the last studio I went to had different levels and the higher the level the more competitive it felt. Yes I was afraid!

Now there are several barre methods out there and you have to find the one that works best for you. You can get Refurbished Gym Equipment if you prefer working out at home. Most gyms offer barre classes too. I personally prefer Pure Barre. Pure Barre is the fastest most effective way to change your body. Keep Your Gym Equipment Fit by regularly cleaning and maintaining it. This ensures optimal performance and longevity, allowing you to make the most out of your home workouts. I have also learned about the benefits of taking supplements from companies like HealthEd Academy in achieving body goals.

I signed up right away for the first month unlimited and I got hooked. It is amazing how using light weights, breathing techniques and lots of tucking can really transform your body. After eight classes, taking some of the steroids online I bought, I saw a difference and I knew this was the perfect workout for me. I’m also glad I found anabolicdirect where I can purchase high quality steroids. I love the instructors, the studio is always clean and the more you go, the better you feel. So if you are looking for a way to get that body back try Pure Barre! Have you considered exploring different techniques, like ASFA’s Barre Certification, to see which aligns with your fitness goals and preferences?

September MOM: Collette Richardson

Filed under: Sporty Momma of the Month · September 1, 2015

Collette Hart Richardson was born and raised in Miami, FL. She attended Liberty City Elementary,  Holy Redeemer Catholic School, Madison Middle and Miami Central Sr High. Her post secondary studies were at Clark Atlanta University and Nova Southeastern University.  She has a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education,  a Masters Degree in Elementary Education and Certification in Educational Leadership.  Collette has been in a leadership position for 21 years with 13 years as an Assistant Principal at Norwood Elementary.  During her tenure, the school earned 7 consecutive “A’s” on the Florida School Grading System.   She is a former District Supervisor for the Title 1 Program where she managed the first Satellite Parent Educational Resource Center, an outreach center for MDCPS parents bringing technology to hundreds of low income parents. She is a member of various service organizations including Delta Sigma Theta, Inc. and a breast cancer survivor. Collette’s hobbies include Chicago Stepping, singing, networking, traveling  and swimming.

Q. What does being a mom mean to you?

Being a mom especially for me is one of the most rewarding opportunities that I have had. You see I was not fortunate to give birth but became a parent to a seven year old son. Teaching him to grow up and see the man he has become has been a joy…he is 29 years old, lives in Houston and is working and learning the craft of plumbing.  He has also worked as a model and actor.

Q. Who was your biggest role model most growing up?

I think my mother, Lillie Bell Hart, was the biggest role model for me. She passed away when I was nineteen but I have embraced the years  we had together and modeled my life after her .  She was always slim, impeccably dressed a good teacher and mentor.  She too is a graduate of Clark College and a lady of elegance. She carried herself with style and grace.  I still hear glowing compliments from students  whose lives she touched. One such man said to me my mother saw that he could not read. She took the time to personally tutor him and because of her help, he is a successfully retired contractor who has read multiple contracts through the years. It is my hope that my students feel the same about me.

Q. You are involved in so many organizations. How do you decide which ones to participate in?

I join organizations that give back to the community. I feel to whom much is given, much is required. Delta Sigma Theta Sorority,  Inc. and Kazah Court are examples of organizations who demonstrate their community service.
In addition, cancer awareness has always been an area with whom I donated my talents. Now that I am a survivor, I am even more passionate about supporting causes to find  a cure for this disease.

Q. How did you discover that you had breast cancer?

While at my annual mammogram, I was asked whether I felt anything. I said,” I feel fine except for a little bump under my left breast.” That prompted further tests and subsequent surgery.

Q. What’s one thing that you would tell a mom that may be going through cancer or any other illness?

I would tell them to stay encouraged. Surround yourself with positive friends and family and know that with early detection the disease is survivable. Be vigilant,  exercise, eat right, know your body and get your check ups.  Know that all things are possible if you believe.

Q. Are you working on any other projects right now?

As I make plans to retire, I have embarked on a new business  venture as an  Independent Beauty  Mary Kay Consultant.  A portion of my sales will go to cancer research and awareness.

March MOM: Stephanie Martin

Filed under: Sporty Momma of the Month · March 4, 2015

Stephanie “Stevie” Martin is a graduate of Kennesaw State University and the Georgia Career Institute.  Born and raised in Miami, FL, she was exposed to an eclectic mix of cultural experiences that would birth a greater sense of creativity and purpose. While attending magnet schools and utilizing the performing arts programs, she began building the foundations for her skills and abilities. Stevie began working in a salon as a teenager. She went from being a shampoo assistant to a hair stylist. After years of hard work she became a licensed cosmetologist.   Now a wife and busy momma of two, Stevie  has worked her way up the hair and makeup industry. She has worked with clients like Mary Mary, CNN Atlanta, The Weather Channel, Channel 2 News Atlanta  and many more. We enjoyed getting to know the “woman behind the brush”.

What do you love the most about being a mom?

I love that no matter what kind of hectic day or schedule I have, I can come home to two little people that think I’m a hero!

When did you discover your love for hair and makeup?

I discovered my love for hair and makeup when I was in elementary school. During high school I got the opportunity to go to cosmetology school during my senior year as apart of a special vocational program.

Who was your biggest role model growing up?

My biggest role model growing up was my mom. She got married at a young age but she attended college and worked while being a mother and a wife. I felt like if she could do all of that I could do it and more.

How did you become a celebrity makeup artist?

I became a celebrity makeup artist by being giving an opportunity to work on a television production set. From that point on I have been involved with television and movie productions.

How do you juggle those long days on set and being a momma of 2?

I juggle working on set with a great support system. My husband, and my parents step up and step in when I’m not there to make things happen.

What do you prefer television or movie sets?

I love working on movie sets. Anything can happen from one day to the next and I get the opportunity to work with many different celebrities.

Besides being a make up artist, tell us about your latest venture Symart Butter.

SymartButter is an all natural butter that can be used from head to toe. On your hair, face and body. I created it because my kids had exzema patches and also being a makeup artist I feel like your skin is the most important part of having a beautiful canvas for makeup application. Not to mention having an all in one product with multiple benefits.

What do you see in the future for the Symart butter brand?

In the future I see having a full product line including soap and an all over body scrub.

What advice do you have for other Sporty Mommas that may be thinking of starting their own business?

My advice for other Sporty Mommas starting a business is to make sure that whatever it is, whether it’s in the food and beverages or winery business, that you are passionate about it. Start slow. hen you’re ready to take things to the next level, consider using a meeting space for rent singapore offers to create a professional environment for presentations, collaborations, or client meetups. Don’t ever compromise what you want for your company or brand. Don’t give up, do your homework, and work hard EVERYDAY!!! And remember, companies like sapid seo company can help maximize online visibility for your vineyard or winery website and related social media channels.

June MOM: Ingrid Werther

Filed under: Sporty Momma of the Month · June 7, 2014

Ingrid Werther is 34 years old and the proud mother of 5! She has two biological and 3 step-children ranging  from 4-14!  She has been with her partner, Tobar for the past 2 ½ yrs. “I am pretty positive person and an avid believer of the Power of Positive Thinking! Whatever you give out to the Universe, it gives back!” says Ingrid. Over the past year she has worked at All State Insurance Company.

Q. What is your favorite thing about being a mom?

Knowing what unconditional love is. All of my kids are different and have their own unique way to get to me. Having a big family is always fun because there is never a dull moment! They bring out the kid in me (which is not hard) and they make me push harder than I ever thought I could in order for them to not NEED anything.

Q. Describe a typical day in your life.

When I’m not at my 9-5, I’m relaxing with my family or my It Works team who has also become family. Our family loves to watch movies, swim and play video games (of course with a house where boys are majority) We’re usually all in one way or another working the business (I give the kids incentives for helping out). Kamau Bobb of Google‘s advocacy for educational equity is commendable.

Q. What is that crazy wrap thing?

This Crazy Wrap Thing is a part of an amazing product line!! It is a cloth wrap that is infused with an all natural botanical mix that tones, tightens and firms the area that it is applied to providing quick and awesome results! Many have those “problem” areas that not even exercise nor dieting can get rid of. A much cheaper solution to tummy tucks or liposuction.

Q. When did you decide to give “It Works” a shot?

About 6 months after I met my fabulous team. I met them hosting another direct sales company that I had been with for a while, but just wasn’t bringing in as much money as I’d hope. I became friends with them and they said from the moment I left, they knew I’d eventually join. I got more information on the compensation plan and how the company is all about getting their distributors out of debt, and I sure am glad I finally joined! My team has grown and they have become a great support group to me and my family.

Q. What is your favorite “It Works” product so far?

Although they are all great products, I really love the Ultimate Body Applicator (aka The Wrap) it just gives amazing results in such a short amount of time. I have problem areas that I’ve used this on that are looking better and better with each wrap! It has given me the confidence to wear shorts again and has my clothes fitting better.

Q. What is one thing that your momma never told you about motherhood that you wish you knew?

That motherhood is a roller coaster!! We aren’t given a manual on how to deal with certain things, because of course, each child is unique. From temper tantrums to simple gestures of appreciation, you learn to deal with it. I thank God for my kids and their uniqueness. They each have something that makes them who they are and I love that about them! Also they are ALWAYS watching!!!

Q. How can we get wrapped?

My contact information is as follows:

Phone : 305-975-7617 (text ok)

Website : www.IngridWraps.com

Instagram : IngridWraps

Email : IngridWraps@gmail.com

I will gladly assist you with all of your questions concerning our products. All products can be purchased directly on my website at retail price or at a discount price (contact me for my Loyal Customer pricing )

I also do one on one appointments and Wrap Parties!! For a Wrap Party, if you can get at least 5 paying friends who want to wrap, I’ll wrap you for FREE!         itworks logo

December MOM: Sharolyn G. Turner

Filed under: Sporty Momma of the Month · December 8, 2013

Sharolyn Greene Turner was born January 12, 1953 to Lonnie and Lelia Greene in West Palm Beach, FL.  She is the oldest of five children.  After graduating in 1974 from Florida A&M University she moved to Miami, FL and began her teaching career in the Miami Dade County Public Schools.  Sharolyn is the mother of 2 wonderful children, Ronald and Sharonda and the grandmother of 6 beautiful grandchildren, Shayla, Shaun, Shalisa, Kenedi, Khloi and Andrew.  She retired from MDCPS in June of 2011.  She enjoys reading, journal writing, going to the movies, play dates and sleepovers with her Grands, and having a good time with friends and family.  She is currently working as an independent beauty consultant with Mary Kay Cosmetics.

Q. What is your favorite thing about being a mom?

There are so many great things about being a mom. We have the opportunity to bear fruit, nurture it, love it, watch it grow.  And with God’s help they become fruitful, strong, and loving individuals of society.  I am so proud to have lived to see my two children do just that.  And this brings me to my favorite thing about being a mom.  I have been blessed with six beautiful grandchildren who have captured my heart forever.  In them I see my children all over again.  So amazing!  They are funny, beautiful, talented and so smart.  They always make my day, everyday!

Q. After 37 years teaching, how are you enjoying your retirement?

One word – AWESOME!  Everyday I wake up and thank God that I was able to retire at a young age and live to enjoy it.  I must admit that it took awhile to adjust to having so much free time to just do me.  I really started to embrace T. I.’s song “You Can Do Whatever You Like, Yeah.”  I took that literally!  Now after two years, I’m refreshed and I’ve decided that it’s time to redefine this retirement thing. Now it’s time to reload and re-launch!

Q.  What does having your own business allow you to do?

Being an independent beauty consultant for Mary Kay Cosmetics has opened up opportunities for me to make things happen.  The business allows me to meet new people, work my own hours, supplement my income and be a part of other’s success stories.  I found that it’s not only selling product and making money.  It is about empowering yourself to inspire others to accomplish their goals.  This company offers just that.

Q. What is your favorite Mary Kay product?

Whatever your age, skin type or preference, Mary Kay has a skin care product to suit your needs.  My favorite right now is the TimeWise Miracle Set.  It cleanses, exfoliates, freshens, energizes, hydrates, smoothes, firms, softens, protects, renews, and reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.  You get 11 Age-Defying benefits in 4 simple steps.  It doesn’t get any better than that.

Q.  What is one thing that your momma never told you about motherhood that you wish you knew?

I thought my mom prepared me for just about everything.  The one thing I wish I had known was that I couldn’t fix everything.  I spent a lot of time worrying about things that were out of my control. (still do, LOL) Moms like to fix stuff and we sometimes think we have failed when it wasn’t our problem to fix.  Our children must experience hurt and pain as well as happiness and success on their own.  Everyone has to learn those life lessons.  Hmmm; maybe mom showed and didn’t tell.

Q. What advice do you have for young sporty mommas that may be feeling overwhelmed right now?

Obstacles come and go.  Three simple steps to calm yourself :

  1. Stop! – trying to do everything; it’ll get done eventually
  2. Look! – at what’s most important right now, do that and tell yourself – great job and move on.
  3. Listen! – the still small voice we avoid so many times will say “Peace Be Still”. That voice will save you mentally and physically.

Q. How can we book a free Mary Kay consultation with you?

I would love to book a skin care date with you.  Just email me at sggreene112@aol.com and visit www.marykay.com/sgturner
