Why you should splurge on a great pair of leggings!

Filed under: Fashion, Fit Moms · April 3, 2018

For years I had serious issues paying over $100 for a pair of leggings. I mean hey I am a mom of three kids that always seem to need new clothes, shoes, fees for sports activities and the thought of splurging on a pair of Lululemon leggings for myself was absurd. I found myself often browsing the racks of Marshalls and TJ Maxx and sometimes Macy’s looking for a pair that weren’t see through or unsupportive. I always ended up buying a few pair at a time because they were typically $29.99 or $49.99 and that seemed like a deal. But what I didn’t pay attention to was the fabric, lack of support and how I was always buying new ones because they didn’t last long. Don’t get me wrong those stores have amazing deals and I love a great deal but I needed gym leggings with a little more compression and support for this aging body. I would also advise my fellow runners and joggers to invest in top-quality Compression socks. #almost40

Carbon38

One day a friend of mine told me that Lululemon was having a sale. I didn’t even know that they had sales because I never walked into one of the stores. So, I eagerly took my first trip to Lululemon at Merrick Park. As I touched and observed all of the different styles and colors, I still felt this guilt like I really should not be spending this kind of money on workout clothes. But…they were on sale so I tried on a few pair. I could not believe what I was missing all of these years. I loved the compression and the fit. It was like an instant booty lift. When I walked my thighs didn’t jiggle. OMG! I was in heaven. I will never forget that I purchased my first pair of black Lululemon leggings with a gift card from my brother. (I know crazy right I still wouldn’t spend my own money) but after wearing them a few times I told myself that I deserved to splurge every now and then. And you do too!

Lululemon

So here are a few tips to save on designer leggings. First, always check the outlet stores. They might be out of season but they still look great. Almost every department store now has an active wear section. I was amazed to see a whole section in Neiman Marcus dedicated to just active wear. If you’re looking for cutting-edge fashion women’s activewear, it’s worth exploring specialty stores and online boutiques that offer unique styles. These places often carry the latest trends and high-performance fabrics designed to keep you looking stylish while working out.

Second, search online sites like RueLaLa for special sales. You can also use those Macy’s coupons for an extra 20% off on brands like Nike and Adidas in store. The brands that I currently love are Alo Yoga, Nike, Lululemon and just ordered my first pair from Carbon38. Third, just do it!!! Your body will thank you for it. If you are like me and feel guilty for buying high end workout clothes, don’t be. Just look at it this way when you look good, you feel good and everyone knows that you feel REALLY good wearing a new outfit to the gym. #killinit

Dance those pounds away!

Filed under: Fit Moms · April 21, 2016

I feel so lucky to be dancing regularly again (but in a different way). After owning my own dance studio in Colorado for over ten years I had to say goodbye to Studio B and focus on my growing family. As a mom of three my schedule gets hectic but a few months ago I found my way back to my passion, dance! I became a certified Zumba instructor in March 2015. Gyms Lynchburg offer great spaces to keep moving and stay motivated. Looking for health clubs Roanoke call Fit Studio.

Now I dance to mostly Latin beats but if you know me, you know that I love all music and all types of dance. Dancing has always been a passion of mine, and I’m always open to learning new styles. If you’re thinking about picking it up, I highly recommend it—not only is it fun, but it’s a great way to improve your body’s rhythm and express yourself through movement.

Teaching Zumba has helped me drop those extra pounds from baby number three and do something I love. To complement my efforts and track my progress, I use a tdee calculator to manage my caloric needs effectively. Today the scale showed the weight I was before my last pregnancy almost 5 years later but none the less I have made it back and I couldn’t have done it without Zumba! Sometimes I get tired and think about quitting but then I see the smiling faces and hear the wonderful testimonies from my students, this because I take really good care of my pregnancy and the months after the birth with the best postpartum treatments from https://themomloft.com/birth-and-postpartum-doula/. It confirms that I am doing what I should be doing and it’s something that I thoroughly enjoy. Hey think about it, I get paid to keep in shape! I hope that everyone can find something that they enjoy! And on that note, explore options from Commercial Gym Equipment Suppliers to enhance your fitness journey and make staying in shape even more enjoyable.

If you are in South Florida come check me out at LA Fitness (Flagler and Bird Rd) on Wednesdays and Thursdays!

Favorite Workouts

Filed under: Fit Moms · December 31, 2015

Last April, I was talking with another mom of 3 and I noticed that her body had changed a lot since the last time I saw her. (Especially her booty) I asked her what was she doing. Her response, she used the ballet bars to get her pre-baby body back. I knew I had to try it out for myself. I was a little nervous because the last studio I went to had different levels and the higher the level the more competitive it felt. Yes I was afraid!

Now there are several barre methods out there and you have to find the one that works best for you. You can get Refurbished Gym Equipment if you prefer working out at home. Most gyms offer barre classes too. I personally prefer Pure Barre. Pure Barre is the fastest most effective way to change your body. Keep Your Gym Equipment Fit by regularly cleaning and maintaining it. This ensures optimal performance and longevity, allowing you to make the most out of your home workouts. I have also learned about the benefits of taking supplements from companies like HealthEd Academy in achieving body goals.

I signed up right away for the first month unlimited and I got hooked. It is amazing how using light weights, breathing techniques and lots of tucking can really transform your body. After eight classes, taking some of the steroids online I bought, I saw a difference and I knew this was the perfect workout for me. I’m also glad I found anabolicdirect where I can purchase high quality steroids. I love the instructors, the studio is always clean and the more you go, the better you feel. So if you are looking for a way to get that body back try Pure Barre! Have you considered exploring different techniques, like ASFA’s Barre Certification, to see which aligns with your fitness goals and preferences?

October MOM: Marissa Herring

Filed under: Sporty Momma of the Month · October 4, 2013

Marissa Herring is a Miami native who began training as a competitive gymnast at an early age. She gradually transitioned into high school cheerleading, at Our Lady Of Lourdes Academy and became an NCA All-American cheerleader and a National Partner Stunt Champion. In 1992, she continued her collegiate cheerleading at Florida State University (FSU), where she was a member of the FSU varsity squad, that travel, cheered and competed at national levels. In 2001, Marissa married Kim Herring, NFL Superbowl XXXV champion. In 2007, after having her 2nd child, Marissa trained for and competed at The Women’s Tri-Fitness World Challenge. In 2013, she returned and won 1st place in her age group and 2nd overall out of 133 athletes. As a certified personal trainer, she motivates women to stay healthy and fit. Now, a mother of 3 children, Marissa continues to train and empower women to be their very best.

Q.  What do you love the most about being a mom of 3?

The activities.  There is never a dull moment. They are constantly keeping me on my toes  and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Q.  Who inspired you the most growing up?

My mom. She has always been a strong independent woman. Hustling around the globe. Taking us with her so we could experience different cultures. She always encouraged me to go for what I wanted and made sure I was on the right path. I had to learn some very important lessons on the way, and she was there to keep me focused.

Q. What is Garage Mama Fitness?

Garage Mama Fitness is a training facility in Orlando, FL for families to feel motivated, energized and bring out their inner “Rock-Star”. My training philosophy has always been to have a non-competitive environment where people feel safe and can focus on strengthening themselves inside so their bodies can transform on the outside. It’s about challenging your self every session to bring the “A-game” mentality and get results. We never have the same workout, and I believe in combining different training styles to keep your body and mind engaged during training. If you need help, contact One Fit Mother, which does women’s personal trainer Charlottesville.

Q.  Congratulations on a successful year of G-Mama Fitness and Trinity Sports. What is it like working with your hubby?

It has been interesting. I am the social butterfly of the operation, and he is the number cruncher. It’s a nice balance. We have found a way to work and yet balance our home life, by rotating our training sessions. We do see each other all day, but we are busy building the business. He handles his side of Trinity Sports Performance and I deal with G-Mama Fitness. We are passionate about our children seeing us love each other and work together as a team.

Q. Last year you competed in The Tri-Fitness Challenge, how was it competing after all of these years?

It was awesome. I won 1st place in my age group (36yr-39yr) and I won 2nd overall out of 133 women athletes. I caught the fitness bug in 2007 after my second child, and after my 3rd baby put 60lbs on me, I didn’t think I had time to get back into the competitive fitness world. A new business, 3 kids (2 in competitive gymnastics), a husband and time for mommy, made it seem impossible to compete again. My clients, staff and family supported me throughout the training. It was great to take 8 clients with me to the Tri-Fitness challenge. We are getting ready for next year!

Q. What makes those G-Muffins so yummy? Are they coming to a store near us anytime soon?

Good carbs are always yummy. I am a foodie and I love my carbs, so good old fashioned oatmeal is the base of the muffin. I figured out the right combination that taste great and still stay moist. Guiltless Guava came from my love for pastelitos. It is in high demand every time I bake. I’m hoping to figure out how to maintain the freshness of the muffin without adding the preservatives that store bought products have. It’s a work in progress.

Q. What advice do you have for busy mommas that want to stay fit but may not have a lot of time?

Be selfish. You need to find 20-30 minutes of “mommy time” to maintain your health and fitness. If you start your day with good endorphins, things will run a bit smoother because you have the right mindset.  Make yourself a priority and do not feel guilty about it. Your family will survive 30-60 minutes without you. If you can’t workout one day, at least plan and pack your meals for the day. You do it for your kids, so do it for yourself. It makes a huge difference in your energy levels throughout the day. Mommy snack time is crucial to keeping our mood swings from acting up. When I’m hangry (hungry+angry), patience goes out the window. Keep your hormones happy and keep your metabolism burning by eating proper portions and training safely and effectively. Some days I only train for 20 minutes because my health and sanity (lol) is a priority for me and my family.

This was the first Thanksgiving in 6 years that we didn’t host at our home. We headed to West Palm Beach to see my family and we had a blast!! It is always so nice to see how much all of the kids have grown. We even had the chance to spend time with my 96 year old grandmother who is still just as sporty and independent as ever!

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
