Busy Bee

This momma has been BUSY! Last week was full of preparations for Fashion in the Gardens, which was fabulous. I also had a few business meetings and calls with potential partners but the icing on the cake was my husband’s 40th birthday party. He went from “I don’t want a party to maybe I want a party” in about a weeks notice. So I sent out a last minute evite to a few friends and by 9 p.m. Saturday night, we had a full 40 plus party going on at Town. It was great to see him so happy and all of our guests having a great time. I am not going to lie, I am exhausted and I need a few days to regroup but for now I am off to stuff 400 goodie bags for the Women’s Impact luncheon. Here are a few pics from my busy weekend!

Fashionista Friday

It has been a long week. I have been running so much between my “Mommy” duties and Sporty Mommas I have not been able to write much. I know blah, blah, blah…everyone is busy these days. On a productive note, I have a few new tees to showcase on sportymommas.com starting next week. (Some beautiful handmade bracelets too) So you have to stay tuned.

My Fashionista Friday will be spent at Fashion in the Gardens. This is a fundraiser for local schools that Sporty Mommas has participated in for the past two years. It is great to give back to the community and meet fabulous women while doing it. The day consists of a marketplace, catered lunch and fashion show presented by Macy’s. It is sure to be a fabulous afternoon. Cheers to the weekend!

P. S. Love YOU

How many of you have days where you feel so overwhelmed that you want to go in a closet and hide? Do you over schedule activities to keep up with other moms? Maybe you even try to be just like one of your “mommy friends”. Well I am here to tell you that you are not alone. We live in a world where everyone is focused on everyone else. We can blame it on this crazy world of social media. Or just call it keeping up with the Jones’.In order to live YOUR life to the fullest, you have to focus on you and not what others think or say about you. I know its easier said than done so let’s tackle some ways that we can be our authentic selves and be proud of it.

1. You are awesome just the way you are.

Think about DNA. There is no one else in the world just like you. You are special, talented and amazing just the way you are. Be YOU!

2. As humans we are always evolving.
If you stay the same over the years, you are not growing and learning this game called life. When you grow, everyone around you may not be growing with you. Therefore, you may have to cut some people loose. Don’t get upset if people don’t understand the “new you”. Be GREAT!

3. You are not perfect.
This is something that we strive to be but when you really step back and think about it, who do you know that is perfect? We all have our issues and make mistakes but it is the person that accepts that they are imperfect that go further and live their lives authentically. LOVE YOU!

Be YOU, Be GREAT, LOVE YOU

Moving On Up

My weekend was …… super busy! It all started on Friday when a friend of mine invited me to see Alvin Ailey. The bonus to attending this particular show was a private luncheon at the JW Mariott with Debra Lee, owner of BET and Tracy Mourning, founder of Honey Shine. It was so inspiring to see beautiful black women together sharing words of encouragement and gratitude. There were business owners, actresses, philanthropists, dancers even a few teachers. The icing on the cake was sitting right behind Gabrielle Union at lunch. I was a little star struck and did not have the nerve to ask for a picture, but I must say all of the ladies were friendly and graceful. Simply being in that room was a motivator to keep pushing and moving on up. I have a great vision and I embrace and accept that the best is yet to come. Every week more and more women discover Sporty Mommas and that’s what I want to continue to do. I encourage you to keep moving toward your goals and don’t let the little obstacles stop you. I have had my share of opposition and negativity but I have come to far to turn back now.

My fashionista picks come from my Sporty Mommas line. What better than a “Fashionista Tee” and Sporty Mommas signature pants! These can be purchased at sportymommas.com beginning March 1, 2014. We will also showcase our latest collection as well. Cheers to the weekend!

Last week started out good. I was busy running around as usual between the kids and Sporty Mommas stuff. I over scheduled my Tuesday and boy did I pay for it on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Seems like I could never get enough rest. On top of that I was waiting to hear from a potential business partner that was not responding the way I thought they would. Talk about disappointing. Through it all I kept pushing through. They always say joy comes in the morning. Well since Sunday, I have had some great things happen to me and Sporty Mommas. I am so thankful for the opportunities and the new connections. I say these things to you to remind you to keep pushing on. Some days may be better than others but hang in there. Yes I could have wallowed in my disappointment but I kept pressing on to my goal. Stay tuned!

Kindness

A random act of kindness occurred the other day and I have to share this story with you all. Yesterday a stranger rang our doorbell. At first I freaked out and then I listened (from behind the gate). He began to explain how he was driving down the street and saw cash blowing on the sidewalk. Naturally, he jumped out and begin following the trail of money, which led to a black leather wallet. It ended up being my husband’s wallet. He picked up the wallet and all of the cards that were also blowing in the wind. Not only did he kindly call the bank to cancel the debit cards, but he also drove over to deliver the wallet with the cash back inside. What a great reminder that there are still kind people out there. So continue to be kind and do nice things even when you don’t feel like it. (Yes we gave him a little reward)

I enjoy seeing my children grow. While, I am teaching them they are teaching me to be present to love, to be patient and to challenge myself to be better and better.

Q. Who was most influential person in your life growing up?

Just one. I have more than one but if your forcing me to say just one Ill say my grandmother. My grandmother has always believed in me in a deep, inspiring motivating way.

Q. What is Purse Empowerment?

Purse Empowerment, is a lifestyle. It’s the value that you assign to yourself beyond labels, and material coupled with hardcore fundamentals of financial literacy. Purse Empowerment, is about being thankful for everything you have, while making the necessary steps to achieve  goals. Cash Offers for Illinois Landowners provide a reliable alternative to traditional sales, often resulting in a smoother closing process.

I am a teacher at heart. so, my life has always been about learning, unlearning and then teaching.  Prior to making my family my primary focus. Working a decade in these industries laid the foundation to  my financial literacy and Purse Empowerment. That same mindset of growth and adaptability also drives my interest in exploring the best UK altcoins as part of modern financial opportunities. After, a year long  sabbatical it became apparent that their is still more to me than motherhood. As, I reassessed myself, I listed all of my talents, skills, passions, and credentials. This list unveiled my own Purse Empowerment. I enjoy meeting with women discussing where they are financially, and providing them with solutions, such as recommending them Virtual Coworker, that will assist them in getting to where they want to be go. My clients range from those who want to put a workable budget in place, to those looking to have an accountability partner to guide them in lax spending, credit repair, and/or debt management.

Q. What advice do you have for other Sporty Mommas that may be thinking of starting their own business?

Last week I had the privilege to attend a private influencer demonstration at the Apple Store. The Apple team shared all of the latest tools to help protect our kids online while using apple devices. I was so excited to learn about the safety features that Apple has in place that some of us may not really know about. Like…..how to set up a child account , protection enabled for teens, managing screen time, communication limits, and communication safety that is designed to help protect your child from viewing sensitive photos and videos.

Apple Watch For Your Kids brings the connectivity, fitness, health, and safety features of Apple Watch to kids who aren’t quite ready for an iPhone! Head over to learn more at apple.com/families to learn more! @apple
