Favorite Workouts

Filed under: Fit Moms · December 31, 2015

Last April, I was talking with another mom of 3 and I noticed that her body had changed a lot since the last time I saw her. (Especially her booty) I asked her what was she doing. Her response, she used the ballet bars to get her pre-baby body back. I knew I had to try it out for myself. I was a little nervous because the last studio I went to had different levels and the higher the level the more competitive it felt. Yes I was afraid!

Now there are several barre methods out there and you have to find the one that works best for you. You can get Refurbished Gym Equipment if you prefer working out at home. Most gyms offer barre classes too. I personally prefer Pure Barre. Pure Barre is the fastest most effective way to change your body. Keep Your Gym Equipment Fit by regularly cleaning and maintaining it. This ensures optimal performance and longevity, allowing you to make the most out of your home workouts. I have also learned about the benefits of taking supplements from companies like HealthEd Academy in achieving body goals.

I signed up right away for the first month unlimited and I got hooked. It is amazing how using light weights, breathing techniques and lots of tucking can really transform your body. After eight classes, taking some of the steroids online I bought, I saw a difference and I knew this was the perfect workout for me. I’m also glad I found anabolicdirect where I can purchase high quality steroids. I love the instructors, the studio is always clean and the more you go, the better you feel. So if you are looking for a way to get that body back try Pure Barre! Have you considered exploring different techniques, like ASFA’s Barre Certification, to see which aligns with your fitness goals and preferences?

The Perfect Bellini

Bellini Recipe:
Serves 12 Champagne flutes
• 2 cups sugar
• 1 cup water
• 1 bag frozen peaches, thawed or 6-8 fresh peaches, sliced
• 1.5 cups of pitted cherries
• 3-4 (750-ml) bottles chilled Prosecco or other sparkling wine (tip: If you’re substituting with a very sweet sparkling wine, you may want to skip the sugar syrup as it may it be too sweet.)
Directions
For the syrup: Stir the sugar and water in a large saucepan over medium heat until the sugar dissolves and becomes a syrup (takes about about 5 minutes.) Cool completely.
For the puree: Puree the peaches and cherries in a blender with 1/2 cup of the sugar syrup until smooth. Strain through a fine-meshed strainer and into a bowl. Cover and refrigerate until chilled.
For each serving, pour 3-4 tablespoons of the peach/cherry puree into a Champagne flute. Slowly pour enough Prosecco into the flute to fill. Gently stir to blend. Garnish with a slice of peach or a cherry.
Do-Ahead Tip: The fruit puree can each be made 1 day ahead. Cover separately and refrigerate.

The Little Things

Filed under: Mom Life · October 23, 2015

After the bowling event we wanted to do something special that would put a smile on a breast cancer survivor’s face. This morning I had the opportunity to shower a mom of 2 who is currently battling breast cancer for the second time with a few gifts. I met her through a mutual friend and after hearing her story it made me realize how blessed I am. Her strength and faith in God keeps her pressing on. When I asked her last week what would be a treat for her she replied, “A Pink Dress to where to church!” It’s the little things! You might not be able to help everyone, but everyone can help someone. Happy Friday!

How You Can Help!

Filed under: Mom Life · October 20, 2015

A few days ago I had the pleasure to sit down and talk with breast cancer survivor Sandy Muller. I met her through a friend while I was looking for a foundation to donate the proceeds of this year’s bowling bash. It is one thing to talk to someone on the phone but to sit down in person and listen to her story was so inspirational. She is a phenomenal wife, mother and now grandmother. You never know what people go through until you listen to their story. After talking with her for a little over an hour I walked away even more charged and pumped up to serve women in need. As moms, wives, daughters and friends we all go through a lot but it is during those tough times that we are stretched to our true potential. Sandy’s battle with breast cancer led her to creating a foundation that services women who are going through treatment. There are so many women uninsured or left with little to no funds after being diagnosed. The Sandy Muller Foundation provides funds to women who qualify for assistance. They help with bill payments, medical expenses, groceries, child care, etc. If you or someone you know may need assistance visit sandybmullerbreastcancerfoundation.org. You can also make a donation online.

The older I get the more I come in contact with women battling breast cancer. Do you want to help out but not sure of what to do? Here are a few tips that can help you help someone going through treatment.

1. Offer a ride to treatment.

2. Prepare or purchase food for a few days. (This helps especially when kids are at home)

3. Make a care package with goodies like lotion, soap, toiletries, and a good book.

4. Gift cards always come in hand.

5. Let them know that you care and are there for them. A simple handwritten note can put a smile on anyones face.

HydraFacial

Filed under: Mom Life · October 13, 2015

Part of being a fabulous sporty momma is taking care of yourself. As moms we put ourselves on the back burner and a lot of things get neglected. I made an effort over the past few months to take better care of my skin. One of the major things I did for my skin is to start having at home chemical peel every month. I have always had pretty good skin but I am prone to hormonal breakouts. A routine check up led me to a new dermatologist that is amazing. I scheduled a facial the following week in a quality Spa Nearby Me and had great results. The esthetician recommended that I try the HydraFacial next time. So of course 6 weeks later I went in for my treatment. It was not what I expected at all. There was this loud machine that basically did all of the work. After 45 minutes I was done and my skin looked fabulous. If you are looking to brighten your skin check out hydrafacial.com. It is important to visit spas like Sage Spa Ouray to experience skin-rejuvenating treatments and services. Clearview Dermatology offers advanced skin treatments tailored to every patient’s needs.

Why a charity bowling bash?

Filed under: Mom Life · September 14, 2015

In 2013, I planned the first Sporty Mommas Charity Bowling Bash in honor of my Auntie Karen Pendergrass that was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 32 and passed away at 39. She was a beautiful wife and mother of two very active boys (now men). While battling this disease she never skipped a beat or even let most of us know that she was fighting cancer. Her beauty, strength and love for others especially her sons, resembled a true Sporty Momma. On September 30th join us as we raise funds to not only fight this disease but help those that need our support. To purchase tickets or make a donation click here!

SM Fall Trends

Filed under: Mom Life · September 2, 2015

With Labor Day weekend quickly approaching, we can officially say Fall is here. Ok in Miami it will be Summer until like November, but we can still enjoy some of this Fall’s Fashion trends. One thing that you will see over and over again is FRINGE. I don’t know why everyone loves fringe. I personally don’t like feeling like something is crawling on me lol. It is what it is. Another trend is RED. Shades of red and burgundy are really hot right now. From lip color to fringe boots and don’t forget those haute bags. So if you are looking for a color choose red! Here are a few of my favorite Fall trends from Neiman Marcus. Think it is time for a new red pair of Louibittons. Happy shopping!

Tom Ford $52

Christian Louboutin $675

Tamara Mellon $1100

Gucci $1890

September MOM: Collette Richardson

Filed under: Sporty Momma of the Month · September 1, 2015

Collette Hart Richardson was born and raised in Miami, FL. She attended Liberty City Elementary,  Holy Redeemer Catholic School, Madison Middle and Miami Central Sr High. Her post secondary studies were at Clark Atlanta University and Nova Southeastern University.  She has a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education,  a Masters Degree in Elementary Education and Certification in Educational Leadership.  Collette has been in a leadership position for 21 years with 13 years as an Assistant Principal at Norwood Elementary.  During her tenure, the school earned 7 consecutive “A’s” on the Florida School Grading System.   She is a former District Supervisor for the Title 1 Program where she managed the first Satellite Parent Educational Resource Center, an outreach center for MDCPS parents bringing technology to hundreds of low income parents. She is a member of various service organizations including Delta Sigma Theta, Inc. and a breast cancer survivor. Collette’s hobbies include Chicago Stepping, singing, networking, traveling  and swimming.

Q. What does being a mom mean to you?

Being a mom especially for me is one of the most rewarding opportunities that I have had. You see I was not fortunate to give birth but became a parent to a seven year old son. Teaching him to grow up and see the man he has become has been a joy…he is 29 years old, lives in Houston and is working and learning the craft of plumbing.  He has also worked as a model and actor.

Q. Who was your biggest role model most growing up?

I think my mother, Lillie Bell Hart, was the biggest role model for me. She passed away when I was nineteen but I have embraced the years  we had together and modeled my life after her .  She was always slim, impeccably dressed a good teacher and mentor.  She too is a graduate of Clark College and a lady of elegance. She carried herself with style and grace.  I still hear glowing compliments from students  whose lives she touched. One such man said to me my mother saw that he could not read. She took the time to personally tutor him and because of her help, he is a successfully retired contractor who has read multiple contracts through the years. It is my hope that my students feel the same about me.

Q. You are involved in so many organizations. How do you decide which ones to participate in?

I join organizations that give back to the community. I feel to whom much is given, much is required. Delta Sigma Theta Sorority,  Inc. and Kazah Court are examples of organizations who demonstrate their community service.
In addition, cancer awareness has always been an area with whom I donated my talents. Now that I am a survivor, I am even more passionate about supporting causes to find  a cure for this disease.

Q. How did you discover that you had breast cancer?

While at my annual mammogram, I was asked whether I felt anything. I said,” I feel fine except for a little bump under my left breast.” That prompted further tests and subsequent surgery.

Q. What’s one thing that you would tell a mom that may be going through cancer or any other illness?

I would tell them to stay encouraged. Surround yourself with positive friends and family and know that with early detection the disease is survivable. Be vigilant,  exercise, eat right, know your body and get your check ups.  Know that all things are possible if you believe.

Q. Are you working on any other projects right now?

As I make plans to retire, I have embarked on a new business  venture as an  Independent Beauty  Mary Kay Consultant.  A portion of my sales will go to cancer research and awareness.

This event raises funds for local breast cancer support groups. In the past, we have raised thousands of dollars for charities like Susan G. Komen, American Cancer Society and Beautiful Gate. Last week I had the privilege to attend a private influencer demonstration at the Apple Store. The Apple team shared all of the latest tools to help protect our kids online while using apple devices. I was so excited to learn about the safety features that Apple has in place that some of us may not really know about. Like…..how to set up a child account , protection enabled for teens, managing screen time, communication limits, and communication safety that is designed to help protect your child from viewing sensitive photos and videos.

Apple Watch For Your Kids brings the connectivity, fitness, health, and safety features of Apple Watch to kids who aren’t quite ready for an iPhone! Head over to learn more at apple.com/families to learn more! @apple
