Now that school is out, we can officially kick off the summer. I think every Sporty Momma should have a SM bling tank, tee and hat of course, but we do have to add a few pieces to our summer wardrobe. From the pool to beach party or simply running around with the munchkins, we gotta stay chic! Here are some of my must have pieces from Tory Burch! I love a great flip flop that can be worn year round and we have to have some fly shades!!!!
The Talk Tuesday: Busy as a Bee
The day flew by so fast I could barely find the time to eat. It all started from the “Heat Hangover”. The game last night was bananas!!!! I never yelled or jumped out of my seat so much at a basketball game. Okay, maybe last year in the Finals, but it was something special. After a game like that it was really hard to get to bed before 1:00 a.m. that leads to hitting the snooze button 4 times this morning. We made it to school ten minutes late, but hey we made it. I got my workout on, hit up Michaels and Party City all before 10:45 a.m. I think that is pretty good. My friend Terry came by and helped me stuff beach pails for the first grade end of the year party. The fun didn’t stop there….early dismissal and a birthday party in Davie at 4:00 p.m. Yes I had a busy day. I am beat but before I hit the sack, I have to start stuffing these goodie bags for Sporty Momma’s Night Out. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
Make It Happen Monday!!!!
Where did this school year go? Only four days left of the 2012-2013 school year. We still have to find a summer camp that I trust enough to allow my little munchkins to attend. Today is my son’s Pre-K graduation. I should be rushing to get ready but we busy Mommas always have something else to do. Today will be hectic, but sometimes it is like that. Graduation is up first, training session with Mike “the trainer” and Mari and tonight is Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals. The Heat must win or go home. So it is make it happen Monday. Let’s go Heat!!!!!!! Hope you have an awesome day!!!!
June MOM: Monique Dennis Spence
Monique Dennis Spence is the founder of Positive Light Media, LLC, an empowerment company which specializes in products, lectures and all things related to inspiration, positivity and optimistic living. She is a frequent guest speaker and writer on inspirational topics and is also a public relations veteran having managed marketing campaigns for Allstate Insurance, Burger King Corporation, Toyota Motor Sales USA, and others. She earned a B.A. degree from Hampton University and an M.B.A. from Florida International University. She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Jack and Jill of America and The Links, Inc. She also sits on the boards of the Women’s Elite Power Society and Youth of Excellence. A divorcee, Monique is the proud mother of a 5 year old daughter, Sydney. Those who are also filing for divorce should seek the legal expertise of a lawyer who will handle processes like property division and alimony.
Q. Describe what “Motherhood” has been like for you?
Motherhood has been the most tremendous and amazing experience. I thank God everyday for the gift of motherhood and for blessing me with an adorable little girl (Sydney) who inspires me every day. Motherhood has broadened my view on every aspect of life and given me a clearer more succinct direction on my purpose in life. Living, laughing and loving is at a completely different plateau and it is so true that you haven’t lived and you haven’t loved until you have had children.
Q. Who was most influential person in your life growing up?
Without a doubt, my parents, Melvin and Elizabeth Dennis have been the most influential people in my life. They provided me with a great foundation grounded in love and faith; and a moral compass to navigate my way through life. It is because of them that I have such an optimistic outlook on life and truly believe that anything is possible.
Q. What inspired you to create Positive Light Media LLC?
PLM was birthed out of a life-altering period in my life where I was faced with quite a few challenges all at once. I was going through a divorce, caring for my 4 month old daughter, and trying to re-establish my life all at the same time. I caught my ex cheating and hired experts for a Colorado lie detector test to confirm everything. The dream life I thought I aligned myself with was in fact the same life I had to walk away from. I went through a complete transition and heavily relied on my support system, my faith in God and my optimistic mindset to push through this phase of my life. I realized I had the power to change the direction of my life and began looking at the lessons to be learned in order to prosper. Walking away from my prior life and blazing a trial for my new life was one of the most positive experiences. I truly understood that in every challenge, there’s a lesson to be learned. My inner spirit kept me in line with a path of possibility and I became inspired to empower, uplift and encourage others. I published my first book, “The Quest for Positive Living, Seven Simple Truths for a Happy Life,” and Positive Light Media, LLC was founded. I view every new day as the opportunity to share my positive light and inspire others through my enterprising movement to do the same.
Q. Where do you see Positive Light Media in the next 5 years?
As an inspirational powerhouse and brand recognized as one of the fastest growing companies in the nation with products being sold in stores and speaking engagements being conducted globally.
Q. Where can we purchase your books, candles and other goodies?
www.positivelightmedia.com, www.amazon.com and www.bn.com (barnes and nobles online)
Q. Are you working on any other projects right now?
I’m excited to be in the midst of planning RISE, our first premiere success summit for women scheduled for August 2013. Filled with inspiration, speakers and strategies for success, this summit promises to be a supercharged gathering for women to become empowered and RISE to every occasion in their life (career, family, business and self).
Q. What advice do you have for other Sporty Mommas that may be thinking of starting something new?
1. Define what motivates you and where your passions are. This is where you will meet your life’s purpose. Someone once asked me the question, “What would you do if you weren’t afraid? I would ask all Sporty Momma’s to ask themselves that same question, step out on faith and become who you are destined to be.
2. Develop your own personal board of advisors. Companies have made this a corporate practice for years to help direct and drive their business. Consultants from https://www.hybridanalytica.com.sg/business-consultant-singapore/ are highly recommended. Use your own BOA to help you reach your goals, bounce off ideas, or just be the cheerleader(s) you need to help get you where you want to be. Seeking advice from professionals like an Insolvency Practitioner Cardiff can further enhance your strategic decision-making process and ensure the long-term viability of your endeavors.
3. Be your own brand and not just an accessory. Know your worth, know who you are and be able to communicate that in your everyday life. Do not give other people the opportunity to define who you are.
Hope Fest 2013
Sporty Mommas, LLC was excited to participate in the first annual Hope Fest in Cutler Ridge, FL on June 1. We had a great time meeting fabulous moms and other people working hard in the Cutler Bay community. We can’t wait to participate again next year. Visit www.inhishands.org for more information about this great organization.
TGIF!
Thank God it is Friday!!!! I have been running around all day preparing for Hope Fest tomorrow. Of course, things never quite go as planned. I have been waiting for this box of shirts to arrive only to open it and discover that five shirts were done incorrectly. Insert :(. I want to scream!!! On top of that I have to run around looking for a tent because there is a 50% chance of rain tomorrow. I did get to train with Mike and Mari this morning followed by the mini carnival at my son’s school. Guess that is why my energy level is zero right now. Oh well, gotta keep it moving. Off to Home Depot in search of a tent. #Ineedadrink
Throwback Thursday: The 80’s
Back in the day…. wow I never thought I would say that. Time has flown by. I remember I couldn’t wait to grow up, go to high school , drive a car…..what a blessing to have seen and accomplished all that I have thus far. I feel like my kids are growing so fast. I wonder what they will remember from their childhood. Everything is electronic. iPhone, iPads, iPods….my seven year old woke up this morning begging for wireless service for her mini iPad. Crazy!!!! I told her when she can pay the bill, she can have wireless. I know her dad will give in sooner or later. Here are some of my favorite things from back in the day. Maybe not the last pic lol. What do you miss from your childhood?
What I’m Loving Wednesday: #LivelikeBella
I started off writing this blog this morning with my favorite summer fashion picks but it just didn’t feel right. My heart was heavy. Over the past few years I kept hearing and seeing #LivelikeBella on facebook and Instagram. I remember Tracy Mourning (honeyshine.org) mentioned it a few times in her tweets but it didn’t hit me until someone that my family loves and adores told me she was very close to Bella. For the past few months I have been praying and asking questions and my friend reminded me how special our kids are. Motherhood is not easy. A mother’s love is unexplainable. I cannot imagine how Bella’s mom and entire family feels right now. I know Heaven has another Angel. One that has already touched thousands and after last nights Heat game millions of people will learn about Bella. I pray that this awareness helps raise funds for Bella’s medical expenses. We can all learn from this beautiful ten year old that fought until the end. Her smile and strength will always be remembered. #LivelikeBella
Talk Tuesday
It is a rainy day in MIA! All I really want to do is crawl back into bed. Since yesterday was a holiday our training session with Mike was rescheduled for this morning. With all of this rain, I don’t know how I am going to get down the street.
It is a short but busy week. Hope Fest 2013 is on Saturday, so I will spend most of the week preparing for that. Every time there is an event there are a few bumps in the road. I tried purchasing a tent (I usually do inside events) but the shipping was ridiculous to get it here by Friday. Plan B is to borrow one from a friend. Hope that works. Until next time!!!!!!!
Happy Memorial Day!!!!
The weekend has come and gone way to fast. We started it off with seeing the Fast and the Furious 6. It was AWESOME!!! The only bad part of the movie were the twelve year olds sitting behind us talking he whole time. Towards the end of the movie I finally turned around and said something and this little twerp had the nerve to stick up his middle finger at me. I had to take a deep breath and remember that he was a kid. Some kids now days have no respect for anybody. The Hubby and I hit the bowling alley afterwards and had dinner and caught the second half of the Heat game. It was a good thing we sold those tickets because that was depressing. Yesterday we had about 20 people over and enjoyed BBQ and the pool. There was enough food for 40 people lol. It was great watching the kids play and reflect on how blessed we are. I want to say Thank You to all of the men and women who fight for our freedom. Because of you, we can live in peace and watch our children grow up. Cheers to you!!!!! Here are my favorite Memorial Day pins from Pinterest!
