You ever wonder why we put ourselves on the back burner as moms? I use to wonder, but I accepted the fact that once you are blessed with a child it is no longer all about you. It is our duty to raise these little beings into people that one day just might be the president, the next Bill Gates or Steve Jobs. One thing that I learned this year is even though we may have other priorities and duties, our passion should not be crippled. In other words do not use having children as an excuse to put your dreams on hold. Yes, you may have to take baby steps until they are a little older but keep working on whatever “IT” is in the meantime. This week take a step toward your passion, you will be so happy that you did. Live it up! There is no better time than now.
TGIF
It’s the weekend baby! During the summer, every day feels like the weekend to me. My birthday week is coming to an end but I will continue celebrating “me” all month long! 35 and fabulous is my motto this year! Last night I attended the screening of Girl Rising. It was an eye opener. Sometimes we take for granted that we live where we do and have the freedom that we have. I try to remind myself of this every now and then but after last night, there are no more excuses. Women can do anything. We have the tools to do it all. (Don’t tell my hubby I said that.)It is a great thing to be a woman. Use your strength and talents to do whatever it is your heart desires. This film was an eye opening experience that I will never forget. CNN will be airing the film on July 16th at 9 p.m. Please try to watch it. Girls run the world!

Girl Rising Screening
Sporty Mommas, LLC was a sponsor in the Regal Southland Mall screening of the documentary Girl Rising. This event took place on July 11, 2013 in Cutler Bay, FL. We joined over 130 women, men and children for this great event for a great cause. Education is so important to everyone. Without education we have nothing. Girls around the world and right in our backyard are still being treated unfairly. After the film there was a brief panel discussing the film and how we can do our part. It was nice to see community leaders and business owners engaged in discussions about change and what we can do to make a our world a better place. This was an eye opening experience that we will never forget. CNN will be airing the film on July 16th at 9 p.m. Girls run the world!
Thankful #tbt
It has been a fabulous week so far. I am so thankful for all of the birthday love. It is a blessing to just be here. There is so much going on in the world these days, sometimes the stress of life causes us to complain more than give thanks for the little things. So today I encourage you to list five things you are thankful for and live love laugh every day!
P.S.
Beyonce was AMAZING last night. My feet still hurt from dancing all night. Here is my outfit from topshop.com
What I’m Loving Wednesday: BEYONCE
It is a little over 8 hours until the “Mrs. Carter Show”! I have been waiting for months, no years to see her live in concert. We purchased tickets right after the Super Bowl when they had a pre-sale. My outfit is ready and I just washed my hair so my curls will be popping tonight. On another note, my birthday was fabulous. I got my workout in, shop on and enjoyed dinner at RED on South Beach with my handsome hubby. I am so blessed to be where I am today. I honestly can not imagine anything else. I will definitely post pictures from the concert tomorrow. Live, Love, and Laugh everyday!!!
It’s My Birthday!!!
OMG! I am officially middle aged lol. I have moved into the 35-59 category. It feels great! Between my family and Sporty Mommas, I am staying busy, keeping fit, inspiring others and loving every minute of it. Of course there are times that I want to pull my extensions out, but overall I cannot complain. These 35 years have been full of ups and downs but through it all, I made it. (Think I made it look pretty good too) My favorite line of the year is “Are these all your kids?” Thank God for good genes and a great sense of humor. The best is yet to come and I am so excited to see what God has in store for me. Tonight we will hit the beach and party like we did at 25. Live, love, and laugh everyday!
Make it Happen Monday: Post Reunion
What a long but fabulous weekend! Our Family Reunion was a huge success. I was so happy to see my family from Maryland, Atlanta and the Palm Beaches. We kicked things off with a Luau. There was food, drinks, and cake for days. No really, there is still food and cake in my refrigerator. On Friday, we went to Dolphin mall for an afternoon of fun. Everyone ate at Dave and Busters and some went to the movies while those of us with kids stayed and played video games. Saturday was the busiest day for me. About 40 members of the family hopped on a very luxurious tour bus and drove around Miami. The kids made up songs and played all day long. Our first stop was at Midtown where we had to cool off with “Feverish Pops”. Next we rode through South Beach and enjoyed the many sights lol. Bayside was up next with lots of music, kiddie rides and Fat Tuesdays! We ended the trip at my mom’s favorite stop Monty’s. My cousins got a chance to taste cracked conch and loved it. My night did not stop there, the hubby and I had to get dressed for Nikki’s 40th Birthday Bash. We danced to old school jamz and reggae. The party didn’t stop until 2 a.m.! I was exhausted but I survived! Now it is back on the grind. Gotta burn off these calories I absorbed over the weekend.
What I’m Loving Wednesday: Red, White and Blue
Tomorrow is the 4th of July and everywhere you go it’s all about the red, white, and blue. Almost every store is having a sale, don’t ask me how I know. (lol) We are tweaking the last few details for tomorrow’s big bash. Here are a few of my favorite festive outfits, accessories and ideas from Pinterest today. Hope you all have a Happy 4th of July. I am dying to get this red Fendi bag. Don’t know if the hubby will approve. A girl can wish, right?
The Talk Tuesday: Party Time
With only two days until our 4th of July bash at Casa de Stewart, I am as busy as a bee. Items are set to be delivered tomorrow evening and guests will start arriving for our Greene family reunion! T-shirts are ready! My blue ABS swimsuit is ready! The cleaning lady is here. The food is already being prepared. Our patio is almost finished. (I will be sure to post pics on Thursday). It’s a party ya’ll. I am going to make a festive dessert tomorrow night with the kids. If all else fails I will be heading to Nothing Bundt Cakes for their delicious bundtinis. Here are a few desert choices I found on Pinterest. Happy 4th of July!!!!!!
July MOM: Tobi C. Butler
Tobi Butler is the wife of Ronald D. Butler II and the proud mother of three beautiful children. She grew up in San Diego California and moved frequently due to her parent’s military careers. After working several years in the insurance industry, she decided to pursue her passion for creating jewelry. In 2010 she launched A.K.A.K. Jewelry, proudly named after her children: Andrew, Kenedi and Khloi. “I started creating jewelry to satisfy my desire to be unique and different”, says Tobi, when asked how she became interested in jewelry design. Tobi goes on to explain what inspired her tag line: Express Your Individual. “In a world full of conformity and rules, I believe that we should embrace what makes each of us unique, thus my tag line was born.” Tobi enjoys running and photography in her spare time.
Q. What is the best thing about being a mom to three beautiful kids?
Being a mom is hands down the most difficult job any woman could have. The best part of being a mom is that I gave birth to 3 little comedians. No matter how difficult my day may be, I can always count on a laugh from one of my silly kiddos. Humor truly is the best medicine.
Q. What is AKAK Designs?
A.K.A.K. jewelry is my fourth baby! I started my jewelry line in 2010. I’ve been designing and creating jewelry since I was 16. My creativity has always been an outlet for self expression. Each of my jewelry pieces is a heartfelt design, hand crafted using quality semi-precious stones.
Q. Who inspired you the most growing up?
My parents are and have always been my greatest inspiration. Specifically my dad, who grew up on a farm with 11 other siblings. Despite his very modest up- bringing, he decided as a young child to pursue flying. He was the first African American to become a member of the Blue Angels, a Naval flight demonstration team. He went on to become the first African American to lead that same team. This was proof that if you have a dream, even though you may not know how to accomplish it, when you keep going by faith, God will do the rest!
Q. When did you discover your love for creating jewelry?
I’ve always had a love for creating things. I sold hand made hair bows in the sixth grade, then friendship bracelets, and even home made snacks. My love for creating jewelry initially came from my mom. She took a few classes and I would hang around being her shadow and caught on to a few techniques. As a teenager I made jewelry to be unique and stand out. My designs became very popular and that’s when I realized this could become more than just a hobby!
Q. Where can we purchase your line?
My jewelry pieces are available on my website, www.akakjewelry.com. It’s also available on my Etsy site AK2 Jewelry.
Q. Are you working on any other projects right now?
I’m currently working on a men’s collection. I’m excited to be working with some different materials such as leather and rustic metals. The collection is set to be released in early fall.
Q. What advice do you have for other Sporty Mommas that may be thinking of starting something new?
The best advice I could give is to put God first. Secondly, don’t be afraid to fail. Sometimes failure can motivate you to try harder; thus the saying, “If at first you don’t succeed, try again”. And last but not least, ask for help when you need it, no one is an expert in every subject.
