Give and You shall receive!

This weekend was crazy! We had two soccer games back to back on Saturday. The kids played really well. The U8 game was intense. I have never been so excited about a little league soccer game. Both teams were playing so well. It took forever for them to score. After about 10 minutes, they finally started scoring and our team won 3-2. Yes, I was the screaming mom on the sideline. (It’s the cheerleader in me)

On Sunday we went to the Dolphins game. We were suppose to meet up with some friends to tailgate but we were 2 hours late. It was so hot out there I didn’t even mind. The Dolphins played okay but we lost 26-23. During the game they sell 50/50 raffle tickets. Half of the sales go to the Dolphin Charitable Foundation and the other half goes to the winning ticket. I purchased $10 worth of tickets. Guess who won?????? Yes, I did! That was so cool. I can’t say exactly how much, but it was a couple of grands. This check is right on time! I have several different projects that I am working on so I can definitely use the extra cash.

Be YOU, Be GREAT

Cheers to the weekend!!!

I am so glad it is Friday. What a crazy week! I spent like 4 hours at three different doctor appointments. Thank God, everyone is healthy and happy again. We have a busy weekend up ahead full of soccer, date night, and lots of football. On Sunday we are heading to the Miami Dolphins Vs Baltimore Ravens game. My hubby is to hype. He loves the Raven and I am a Dol-FAN! So it is going to be a lot of fun. This week we will tailgate with some friends. I am debating what items to bring since it will be more like brunch. Here are a few tailgating ideas courtesy of Pinterest. Hope you have a fabulous Friday!!!!!

October MOM: Marissa Herring

Filed under: Sporty Momma of the Month · October 4, 2013

Marissa Herring is a Miami native who began training as a competitive gymnast at an early age. She gradually transitioned into high school cheerleading, at Our Lady Of Lourdes Academy and became an NCA All-American cheerleader and a National Partner Stunt Champion. In 1992, she continued her collegiate cheerleading at Florida State University (FSU), where she was a member of the FSU varsity squad, that travel, cheered and competed at national levels. In 2001, Marissa married Kim Herring, NFL Superbowl XXXV champion. In 2007, after having her 2nd child, Marissa trained for and competed at The Women’s Tri-Fitness World Challenge. In 2013, she returned and won 1st place in her age group and 2nd overall out of 133 athletes. As a certified personal trainer, she motivates women to stay healthy and fit. Now, a mother of 3 children, Marissa continues to train and empower women to be their very best.

Q.  What do you love the most about being a mom of 3?

The activities.  There is never a dull moment. They are constantly keeping me on my toes  and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Q.  Who inspired you the most growing up?

My mom. She has always been a strong independent woman. Hustling around the globe. Taking us with her so we could experience different cultures. She always encouraged me to go for what I wanted and made sure I was on the right path. I had to learn some very important lessons on the way, and she was there to keep me focused.

Q. What is Garage Mama Fitness?

Garage Mama Fitness is a training facility in Orlando, FL for families to feel motivated, energized and bring out their inner “Rock-Star”. My training philosophy has always been to have a non-competitive environment where people feel safe and can focus on strengthening themselves inside so their bodies can transform on the outside. It’s about challenging your self every session to bring the “A-game” mentality and get results. We never have the same workout, and I believe in combining different training styles to keep your body and mind engaged during training. If you need help, contact One Fit Mother, which does women’s personal trainer Charlottesville.

Q.  Congratulations on a successful year of G-Mama Fitness and Trinity Sports. What is it like working with your hubby?

It has been interesting. I am the social butterfly of the operation, and he is the number cruncher. It’s a nice balance. We have found a way to work and yet balance our home life, by rotating our training sessions. We do see each other all day, but we are busy building the business. He handles his side of Trinity Sports Performance and I deal with G-Mama Fitness. We are passionate about our children seeing us love each other and work together as a team.

Q. Last year you competed in The Tri-Fitness Challenge, how was it competing after all of these years?

It was awesome. I won 1st place in my age group (36yr-39yr) and I won 2nd overall out of 133 women athletes. I caught the fitness bug in 2007 after my second child, and after my 3rd baby put 60lbs on me, I didn’t think I had time to get back into the competitive fitness world. A new business, 3 kids (2 in competitive gymnastics), a husband and time for mommy, made it seem impossible to compete again. My clients, staff and family supported me throughout the training. It was great to take 8 clients with me to the Tri-Fitness challenge. We are getting ready for next year!

Q. What makes those G-Muffins so yummy? Are they coming to a store near us anytime soon?

Good carbs are always yummy. I am a foodie and I love my carbs, so good old fashioned oatmeal is the base of the muffin. I figured out the right combination that taste great and still stay moist. Guiltless Guava came from my love for pastelitos. It is in high demand every time I bake. I’m hoping to figure out how to maintain the freshness of the muffin without adding the preservatives that store bought products have. It’s a work in progress.

Q. What advice do you have for busy mommas that want to stay fit but may not have a lot of time?

Be selfish. You need to find 20-30 minutes of “mommy time” to maintain your health and fitness. If you start your day with good endorphins, things will run a bit smoother because you have the right mindset.  Make yourself a priority and do not feel guilty about it. Your family will survive 30-60 minutes without you. If you can’t workout one day, at least plan and pack your meals for the day. You do it for your kids, so do it for yourself. It makes a huge difference in your energy levels throughout the day. Mommy snack time is crucial to keeping our mood swings from acting up. When I’m hangry (hungry+angry), patience goes out the window. Keep your hormones happy and keep your metabolism burning by eating proper portions and training safely and effectively. Some days I only train for 20 minutes because my health and sanity (lol) is a priority for me and my family.

Thankful Thursday

This has been a crazy week. Full of sniffles, coughs, and antibiotics. Today was the first day in 10 days that all 3 kiddos made it to school. There is some awful bug going around and it seems like it is hanging around this house. Today I am thankful for healthy happy kids and great teachers that make missing so much school easier. Off to complete make up work!

What I’m Loving Wednesday: The Mighty Purse

OMG! I cannot tell you how many times I am out and my iPhone dies on me. I don’t know why it doesn’t stay charged. Last year during the Miami Heat Championship game it crashed. There are numerous times where I considered switching phones until now. Have you heard of the purse that charges your phone? That’s right there is a fashionable, high quality, and rechargeable purse on the market right now. It is compatible with most smartphones and is retailing right now for about $95. A product this hot is hard o get your hands on. I placed my order a few weeks ago and I am desperately waiting for it to arrive. Check it out at www.mightypurse.com or stop by Gift Chixx to order yours today.

WHAT’S HOLDING YOU BACK????

You ever stop and ask yourself this? We all have dreams and aspirations; things that we would do if we had more time, more money, more support. It cripples us at times ,but I have realized over the past eight months that we have to get out of our own way. (Thanks Stacy Boegem) Those negative voices and fear of failure can be overwhelming but if you step back, ask for what you want and reach for it, it can happen. Today I encourage you to write down 3 things that you want to accomplish over the next 3 months and Make It Happen! It will not be easy, but it will feel amazing to accomplish what you set out to do.

Bowling 4 Boobies

Our first charity event was a huge success. I initially planned for 30 women back in August. However, we had over 75 ladies and gents come out and raise funds for a great cause. Guests arrived and had their pictures taken on the “Pink” carpet. The party area was decorated with lots of balloons and treats. Our high school volunteers sold over $400 in raffle tickets. Former MLB players Cliff Floyd, Rondell White and Shannon Stewart brought their A game to the lanes! It was truly an unforgettable night. A special thanks to Dirty Mistress Photographers Nikki and Cha Cha for capturing the event. Thank you to MIA Shoes, Lori Klein, Wyn317, Sporty Mommas, Dirty Mistress for fabulous donations to the silent auction. “Pink” Apparel can be purchased at sportymommas.com Next year will be bigger and better. We raised close to $2000. Proceeds will go to Susan G. Komen and a local Miami Breast Cancer Support group. Hope you enjoy the pictures!!!!

What I’m Loving Wednesday: Own Your Power Radio

On Monday, I was thrilled to attend a recording session on Own Your Power Radio which airs tonight. I have been working with Life/Business Coach Simone Kelly Brown for a few months and she is amazing. Her energy, focus, creativity and honesty has kept me on my toes. The guests included a few other phenomenal South Florida business owners Ingrid B, Simone from Natural Trendsetters, Brandon Okpalobi of Dibia Athletics and Jon Saxx. We discussed “branding” and what makes our brand stand out from others. I learned a lot from listening to these veterans. The best part of the night was the laughter. We truly had a fun night. It was an honor to be a part of this show.

Tune in tonight at 8 p.m. by either downloading the Live365radio APP and enter OYP Radio or go to www.ownyourpower.biz and click on Radio. Once you listen to the smooth grooves, you will want to come back and listen often. Hope you enjoy the show!

This was the first Thanksgiving in 6 years that we didn’t host at our home. We headed to West Palm Beach to see my family and we had a blast!! It is always so nice to see how much all of the kids have grown. We even had the chance to spend time with my 96 year old grandmother who is still just as sporty and independent as ever!

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Last week I had the privilege to attend a private influencer demonstration at the Apple Store. The Apple team shared all of the latest tools to help protect our kids online while using apple devices. I was so excited to learn about the safety features that Apple has in place that some of us may not really know about. Like…..how to set up a child account , protection enabled for teens, managing screen time, communication limits, and communication safety that is designed to help protect your child from viewing sensitive photos and videos.

Apple Watch For Your Kids brings the connectivity, fitness, health, and safety features of Apple Watch to kids who aren’t quite ready for an iPhone! Head over to learn more at apple.com/families to learn more! @apple
