Finding YOUR Passion

It is a new year and that means new hopes and dreams and that burning desire to be better than you were the year before. So what is it that you really want to do but something has been standing in your way? Is it a book, a new job, starting your own business….what ever it is I am here to tell you the time is now!!! It is time to step out and just do it.   I met a woman the other day that shared with me that she was in transition. She loved her job that she has worked for 15 years and she enjoys raising her teenage daughter but she felt the need to do more.  Her daughter is graduating soon and she will be eligible for early retirement in a year or two. I asked her what she enjoyed doing and she replied, “ I like a lot of things”! Boy can I relate!

Finding your passion may seem hard at first but when you really break it down it is right in front of your face. It’s that thing that keeps you up at night, or day dreaming all day long. It comes easy to you. Your friends and family members may even be asking you “When are you going to….? It brings joy not only to you, but also to those around you.  When I started Sporty Mommas, I had one goal in mind and that was to make moms feel good about themselves. I went through a period of time after my second child was born where I was missing something.  I didn’t like the way my clothes fit, my hair wasn’t doing it, I was overwhelmed raising two kids under 3. I needed something of my own. I tried selling Mary Kay, Scentsy, Stella and Dot, and even volunteering. After praying and journaling for a few months, Sporty Mommas was born. Back then I had no idea where it would lead me, but I knew if I stepped out and did something for me, it would all fall into place.

It might take some time and experimenting but when you really find it you will know.  Take a step toward your passion and do great things!!!!!

Don’t Give Up Now

I have a confession. My desire to workout regularly has slightly diminished. Ok no it just totally disappeared around Thanksgiving. I was busy running around preparing for business and school activities and I just lost it. Not to mention I hurt my left hip doing what I don’t remember. I know I am not the only one because I have heard other people talking about the same thing. SO if you are like me and need to get back into the workout groove, let’s get it. Give yourself a goal and stick with it. My new goal is to be active at least 3 times a week and to get back into that little black bikini for our trip to the Bahamas in May. What’s your goal? Have a fantastic Monday!!!!

Are you ready for the weekend? I know I am! This first week back to school was tough. Okay it wasn’t that bad, but I miss sleeping in and not having to rush here and there. Thank God it is Friday and hopefully this busy momma can get a little me time in this weekend. I am off to get a cute outfit to wear to dinner tonight. Cheers to a fabulous weekend! Here is the cocktail of the week via Olive Garden.

Mango Martini
2 ounces Malibu Mango-flavored Caribbean Rum
3/4 ounce triple sec liqueur
2 ounces Kern’s mango nectar
2 ounces sweet-and-sour mix
Garnish with pineapple

January MOM: Maybi Iglesias

Filed under: Sporty Momma of the Month · January 7, 2014

Maybi Iglesias was born in Cuba in 1977. She arrived in Miami at just two and a half years old.  She is happily married and the proud mother of two beautiful kids. Maybi is the Owner and founder of Sprinkles Magazine, Royalty Bebe Magazine, Baby Tots Den and Sprinkles Media.  She currently resides in Pinecrest Florida.

Q. Who influenced you the most growing up?

My mother did!  She was a very hard worker and she always taught me how to save for the “not so good days.”  She also taught us never to say what we have or don’t have.

Q. How long have you been a mompreneur?

I’ve been a mompreneur for over eleven years!

Q. What inspired you to create your own magazine?

After I had my second child, I took a break from another business.  After about a year or so, I started thinking about what to do next and since I’ve always wanted to do something in publishing, why not an amazing parenting magazine!

Q. How long did it take for you to really feel successful?

Well, to be honest, I always feel successful at what I do!  I put my heart and soul in whatever it is that I am doing and make it a point and a goal to take it to the next level. Dental seo improves your clinic’s search rankings.

Q. What do you love the most about running your own business?

I can say what I love the most is still having the time to be with my kids as much as I want to be with them and participating in all their activities.  I look forward to picking them up from school everyday!

Q.  How do you balance being a wife, mother,  and entrepreneur?

I wake up very early in order to have my coffee in complete silence and answer emails without being interrupted.  Being a wife is the easiest thing for me.  My husband is a family guy.  He is as much involved with the kids as me so we always have each other’s back.  We make time for date night and we enjoy going out with our friends.  Sometimes it will be a few weeks before we take a night off, and we’re both ok with that.  We pretty much know when we need a break and just take off!

Q. What advice do you have for a busy mom who wants to own her own business one day?

I say “GO FOR IT!”  You may need to take a pay-cut but the time you have for your kids, husband and family and just being your own boss is Priceless! To start building your business online, a professional like an SEO agency may have some recommendations for you. Speak with multiple Boston SEO agencies to find a firm that can help you achieve your marketing goals. Investing in SaaS WordPress Agency services is one of the wisest decision you can make for your business. Additionally, partnering with a lawyer marketing agency can help you effectively target and grow your legal practice through strategic online campaigns.

Take a Step

Over the past weekend I had the opportunity to attend Inspire Many’s 4th Annual Resolutions Retreat. Approximately 175 people gathered together to kick off 2014 fired up! There were several guest speakers that did just that. Topics included finding your voice, overcoming obstacles and my favorite what’s your story! After listening to the 6 speakers, it hit me. We all have a story. Something that affected us in a positive or negative way that put us in the mindset that we are in today. That thing that might be holding us back or pushing us forward. Take a step back and acknowledge your story. Maybe even write it down and then take a step forward and begin to share it.

Do it

Well, it is the first Monday of the year and that means back to reality. The kids are back to school, activities will start up again and those new year’s resolutions will be floating around in your brain. Statistics show that usually by February most people forget their resolutions or simply give up. I have to be honest, I did not write any resolutions for this year. I read an article over the weekend and it said to try focusing on one word to improve or become. I thought to myself for a few hours and the first word to pop up was fabulous. LOL. If you have been following the blog you know I am all for looking great and being a fabulous sporty momma. But, after really thinking about it, my word for 2014 is better. I just want to do better and be better than the year before. A better wife, a better mom, a better friend and definitely a better business woman. So what is your word?

1. smarter
2. bold
3. peace
4. caring
5. fit
6. prosperous

The Balancing Act

The Balancing Act

The Webster’s Dictionary defines balance as 1.  an even distribution of weight enabling someone or something to remain upright and steady. 2. a condition in which different elements are equal or in the correct proportions. Let’s step back and really understand what balance as a spouse, mother, nurse, teacher, caregiver, chef, maid, a woman of many hats truly means.  Let me know when you figure it out.

The truth is balance is keeping yourself together long enough to make it through the day. I use to always say “I am trying to find the perfect balance between being a stay at home mom of 3 and running a small business”. Some days things flow really, really well and then there are those days when I want to pull my hair out. Here are a few things that I have learned over the past few years.

Prioritize

Make a list of what really matters to you. Keep the important things on top daily. For example my immediate family comes first. I say immediate because I use to stress myself out over all of the little things my extended family was going through. Now I learned to say, ”you can’t fix everyone’s problems.” Jot down the top three priorities in your life and stick to them.

Learn to Say No!

Most women struggle with this one. We want to do it all.  We don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings or look bad because we haven’t volunteered this month.   Last year I was the room parent, volunteer for a mentoring program and helped keep the soccer team organized. It was bananas. This year I learned to say no. I still participate when I can but I don’t over do it. Don’t feel bad if you say no here and there. They will survive.

Organization

It is important to stay organized. Make a to do list daily or weekly of the important things that you must accomplish.  I like to make my list the night before so I already know what my upcoming day looks like. Post- it-notes, iPhone messages and daily planners will help keep you on track.

Assistance

One thing that I had to learn the hard way was to ask for help. I had a two and a half year old and a newborn but still wanted to be super woman and do it all. For newborn photographer Londonderry call Danielle Bustamante Photography. Well after a few months, it took a toll on me and I got sick.

I learned that it is okay to ask for help. It may mean hiring a housekeeper, like Personalized Maid Services Beaverton, or babysitter, or simply asking a family member to pitch in a little to lift the load off of you. The truth is we really can’t do it all.

Acceptance

Once you recognize that there are some things that may not get done today, this week or even this month, the pressure to “do it all” will subside. It is okay if you do not get to all of the things on your to do list. You tried and tomorrow you can try again.

In conclusion, the art of balancing life is a skill that the more you do it, the better you become at it. Everyone has to find his or her own balance. Take it one day at a time and remember there is always tomorrow.

This was the first Thanksgiving in 6 years that we didn’t host at our home. We headed to West Palm Beach to see my family and we had a blast!! It is always so nice to see how much all of the kids have grown. We even had the chance to spend time with my 96 year old grandmother who is still just as sporty and independent as ever!

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Last week I had the privilege to attend a private influencer demonstration at the Apple Store. The Apple team shared all of the latest tools to help protect our kids online while using apple devices. I was so excited to learn about the safety features that Apple has in place that some of us may not really know about. Like…..how to set up a child account , protection enabled for teens, managing screen time, communication limits, and communication safety that is designed to help protect your child from viewing sensitive photos and videos.

Apple Watch For Your Kids brings the connectivity, fitness, health, and safety features of Apple Watch to kids who aren’t quite ready for an iPhone! Head over to learn more at apple.com/families to learn more! @apple
