About 5 years ago I started driving pass this tennis court thinking to myself “What if I took lessons?” I remember playing tennis as a child with my dad and brother but never really learned how to play. The thought would cross my mind about 100 more times before I actually said it out loud to a friend. One day I met her at the tennis court to exchange a handbag. Yes, a purse. Lol, long story, but that was what led me to the court. There is also another court with synthetic cricket pitches, and sometimes we go there to play. The coach yelled, “Let me see what you got.” I had on jeggings and sandals. It was quite awkward.
After I started playing my kids and husband started playing. It has become a family sport and we have bonded with our coach. (Who absolutely loves my hubby because he talks baseball all day with him). These Mini Tennis Balls are so beneficial to our tennis training. Today, six months later the coach tells me “Your hubby is the best thing that happened to me”. He has said it over and over to me but today I thought what if, what if I never told my friend I wanted to play tennis? What if I continued to be afraid of how I looked or ran after spinal surgery? What if the coach never met my hubby and got to talk baseball?
Sometimes we have to take a step into where we want to go. We have to release the fears and just try it. If it doesn’t work out as planned, well try something else. What if?
As I was watching the 2014 Espy Awards I was touched by Michael Sam’s acceptance speech. He quoted the late great Arthur Ashe, “Start where you are, Use what you have, Do what you can”! How many of you find yourself saying, I don’t have what it takes? Other people have it so easy! Not today, maybe tomorrow. I find myself listening to the same chatter from time to time and as my friend Stacy says, restrain the monkey. If you step out and just Start where you are, each day you will get a little closer to your goal. Use your gifts and talents and do what ever it is your heart desires. The road is not easy. Somedays you may want to throw in the towel but remember why you started.
OMG! For years I have been talking about going on a girls trip. You know when you are a busy momma, it is really hard to take a solo trip. You feel guilty or I will go ahead and admit, I was afraid. I did not think anyone could do what I did. Well after going on our first couple’s trip in September, I realized that couples need a break away from the kids and every now and then, momma needs a break from everyone. So in a few days I will be hopping on a jet with a few of my friends to meet up with some old friends in Mexico. We are staying at a fabulous resort and spa and I cannot wait. My family and I just returned from our annual summer trip to Disney World. This trip was a little shorter than usual because we have a few different trips planned. Every time we arrived at a new park or restaurant, my son would say , “Mom, this is the best day ever”! The first time he said it I smiled, the third day he said it I took a step back and really thought about what he was saying. Each day was a little better than the previous day. Every day he had it already made up in his mind that it was going to be the best day ever. What if we lived like that? Each day wake up with the expectations that today is going to be amazing and better than yesterday? It makes my heart smile to see our 5 year old living and loving life to the fullest!

I always loved loved loved the summer! Besides it being my birthday (July), I loved being out of school, spending time with cousins and staying up late!!! As a momma of 3, I look forward to sleeping in, no homework and traveling. This summer will be a busy one. We have our annual trip to Walt Disney World and this year we are taking the kiddos to Paradise Island. Oh and momma is going on a girl’s trip!!! Yes my first trip solo since I was single.
