Sweet November

I absolutely love, love, love this time of year! The weather is fabulous, which means my hair stays fabulous lol and our appreciation for the little things start adding up. It means we are closer to a new year, new beginnings and creating new memories. Football season is in full swing and the Heat is on literally. Oh and I finally get to pull out my boots!!!! Q. Who was most influential person in your life growing up?

My parents. My dad kept me in line and away from negative influences. My mom was like my best friend. I could tell her almost anything. They both have always encouraged me to be not just a successful woman, but someone who serves from the heart. They are my 2 biggest supporters.

 Q. What is M.M.I.A.?

MMIA, Million Moms In Action, is the premier digital bi-monthly publication for ambitious moms who are transitioning from employee to CEO mom. In each issue we feature 20 CEO moms who are balancing family and entrepreneurship. We also provide inspiration, support, and actionable tools and info to help aspiring mompreneurs on their journey.

 Q. What inspired you to create an online magazine?

Well the funny thing is I was in the middle of writing my first book and couldn’t decide on the topic I wanted to focus on. So I was talking to a friend one day and I told her about a movement that I wanted to start and the vision that I had for it. I asked her for advice on how I could get it done and her answer was “why don’t you start a magazine”. The moment she said that it was as if everything made since and 4 months later the first issue was released.

 Q. How did you know you wanted to be an entrepreneur?

 I’ve always known. I used to tell my parents that I’m never going to do the dishes when I’m a grown up because I’m going to have my own business and hire someone to do them for me lol. Having help with running a business is easier nowadays with outsourcing HR UK. I’ve had a few jobs growing up and I could never see myself working for someone else long term.

Q. Are you working on any other projects right now?

Yes. I’m working on quite a few, but the one I’m probably most excited about is a mentorship program I’ll be starting with local moms who are ready to take a step of faith and start their own business. It’s going to be epic. Really looking forward to it.

 Q. What advice do you have for other Sporty Mommas that may be thinking of starting their own business?

Just do it. Start where you are. I know we all have grand visions but when you start with what you have the road becomes so clear and all of the obstacles you thought were there immediately disappear.

What do YOU want?

That was the question that was asked to us over the weekend at Oprah’s “The Life You Want Tour”. It was funny because you think you know what you want until someone asks you and you are like……… After dwelling on it overnight I realized all I ever really wanted was an apology from a few things that happened in the past. I also realized those people that I was waiting on an apology from will never apologize, so I have to apologize to myself and move on. So today I pledge to live in the moment. I already passed my past! What do YOU really want?

Back in the Game

It has been a while since my last post. This blogging thing can get a little bit complicated. Some things came up after the event and I had to take a step back to reflect. The event was great but I had a few let downs. For the most part it was totally out of my control, but when I saw a red flag I should have known better. People will let you down. They will put on an act just to be part of the team, but when it is time to get in the game and contribute they stay on the sidelines watching to see if you are going to fail. Sorry not this time! It’s the fourth quarter and I still have time to meet my annual goals for the business this year. Time to get back in and make it happen!

We just held our 2nd Annual Charity Bowling Bash raising funds for breast cancer research and support. People ask why did you start doing that event. Well breast cancer hit close to home about 14 years ago. My Auntie Karen was diagnosed at 32 years old. She was an amazing wife, mother and friend. She battled cancer for 7 years but in 2003 at the young age of 39, she passed away. She left behind a husband and two young sons. She was a true Sporty Momma. Her smile and kindness would light up a room. It has been a while but her spirit lives on.

In honor of Karen and all of the women battling this horrible disease, I will continue to do my part to help the fight against breast cancer. This month 10% of all sales will go to the Sporty Momma’s Charitable Fund that was created to assist women and children in need. Be sure to check out our pink and limited edition items.

Sporty Mommas in the Mix

So if you are following my blog, you know the bowling event is tomorrow. Planning an event is hard work. This year I hired a publicist to assist me with marketing and it was worth every dollar, as we used great online services for this, click here to learn more. We got a spot in the Neighbors section of the Miami Herald and a two minute segment on NBC 6 in the mix. I must admit that I was a little nervous the night before. Running lines in my head lol. Well after I arrived to the studio all of my lines went out the window. The interview was successful and my kids think I am famous now lol. I am very thankful that they gave us the opportunity to discuss Sporty Mommas and the bowling bash. I can’t wait until tomorrow. Here are some behind the scenes pictures from my interview.
