With all of the craziness going on in the world, I was encouraged today by the FLOTUS! First Lady Michelle Obama is my WCW! The speech that she gave at Tuskegee University was amazing. It gave me chills listening to it because I can relate to all of her words. If you haven’t seen it check it out here. I hope that you have a fabulous week! Be inspired!
One Blessed Mother
I was riding on a school bus with about 40 screaming first graders yesterday and I had this AHA moment. How blessed am I to be a mom of 3! In the midst of the field trip I said a little prayer of thanks for being in the position I am in. I asked my husband later on that day if he ever imagined ten years ago our life and what it would be like now? (He said no of course) I honestly could not have pictured this. I knew I wanted to be a wife and mom one day but I never quite thought about the journey. It has not always been easy and I do not know what the future holds but I am so grateful and blessed beyond my wildest dreams. I am thankful for my mom who led the way and my grandma for showing her. I am so thankful for my husband that has been the best father and I call him my bff (he thinks it is corny lol). And my three kids that keep me young, laughing and rinsing my grey hair back to black lol. On this Mother’s Day I wish you all love, peace and relaxation. I hope you take a little time to enjoy the moment!

What the What?
Last week I was busy prepping for my daughter’s 9th birthday celebration. I am happy to say it was fun and less stressful than last year. However, I did not know that I said it was a drop off party. I had like 10 girls get dropped off. I am new to the drop off thing. I rarely drop my kids off anywhere but grandma’s house. After 6:30 my emotions came over me. I had like 30 girls running around and parents saying see you at 8. I was so unprepared for that. Thank you to the server that reminded me that it was happy hour until 7 and Pinot Grigio saved the night. A few sips did the trick and watching all of the tweens having a blast made it all worth it. Omg! My baby is 9!
Party Planning
Last year we had this huge pool party for my daughter. (Like 80 people) It was a mess from start to finish and almost turned tragic when my niece grabbed onto the birthday girl when she realized she forgot her water wings and drifted to the deep end. Yeah, it was bad. So this year we decided to do something simple. We are going bowling!!!! No clean up, not inviting everyone and their siblings just my daughter and a few, okay 20 of her friends. With all of the chaos after Spring break, testing, basketball practice, soccer, and play dates, I realized I am behind on this planning stuff. I have 2 days to get decorations, cake, and favors!!!! She loves nail polish and glitter so I turned to Pinterest for some inspiration. Here’s what I am loving so far. What’s your favorite?
Stepping Out
This has been on my mind for a while now and I am finally putting it into action. I have been hesitant about speaking at events that were not my own. Maybe it was fear or maybe just waiting for the right opportunity. I am happy to say that after my guest panel appearance last month at the Women’s Impact Conference, I realized that it is time to step out and spread the mission of Sporty Mommas. Am I nervous? Heck Yeah! Am I going to back down? Not anymore! It is time to step out on faith and just do it!!!!! Here’s to making it happen one step at a time.
Be YOU, Be GREAT, Be FABULOUS
Spring Break
We had a great Spring Break with the kiddos. We enjoyed 4 theme parks, bumped into old friends and got to experience two resorts. The Cabana Bay Beach Resort on Hollywood Studios’ property was really cool. They had a bowling alley, game room and cafeteria on site. It was affordable and very clean. The kids are already planning the next trip. The best part was seeing how happy the kids were. My youngest is finally old enough to ride the real rides lol. Now it’s back to the grind. Only 9 weeks left of the school year and boy I cannot wait until Summer!
Cabana Bay
Animal Kingdom
Epcot
Guess What?
I have a confession. I do not like working out. Okay I like it, I just don’t make enough time in my schedule to get it done. The other day while trying on clothes in Nordstrom I realized that it is really time to make a serious change. The clothes fit but I know they could fit better. So today I am starting over. I am going to set a new goal and stick with it. If you need a push too, let me know. Operation drop 10 is in effect. Let’s get it!
Happy International Women’s Day
When I planned our Sporty Mommas Connect meet up, I had no idea it was International Women’s Day until my mom pointed it out. Even though I got sick last night, I knew I had to keep our meet up. I am so glad I did. SM Connect is a small group of Mommas in business that support and learn from each other. We know what it is like to be busy moms with dreams of our own. On this lazy Sunday afternoon we came together to catch up, reflect on our first quarter of 2015 and have a nice time. (Don’t forget the wine) I am so proud of these ladies for all that they have accomplished. I know the best is yet to come!
Be YOU, Be GREAT, Be FABULOUS!
March MOM: Stephanie Martin
Stephanie “Stevie” Martin is a graduate of Kennesaw State University and the Georgia Career Institute. Born and raised in Miami, FL, she was exposed to an eclectic mix of cultural experiences that would birth a greater sense of creativity and purpose. While attending magnet schools and utilizing the performing arts programs, she began building the foundations for her skills and abilities. Stevie began working in a salon as a teenager. She went from being a shampoo assistant to a hair stylist. After years of hard work she became a licensed cosmetologist. Now a wife and busy momma of two, Stevie has worked her way up the hair and makeup industry. She has worked with clients like Mary Mary, CNN Atlanta, The Weather Channel, Channel 2 News Atlanta and many more. We enjoyed getting to know the “woman behind the brush”.
What do you love the most about being a mom?
I love that no matter what kind of hectic day or schedule I have, I can come home to two little people that think I’m a hero!
When did you discover your love for hair and makeup?
I discovered my love for hair and makeup when I was in elementary school. During high school I got the opportunity to go to cosmetology school during my senior year as apart of a special vocational program.
Who was your biggest role model growing up?
My biggest role model growing up was my mom. She got married at a young age but she attended college and worked while being a mother and a wife. I felt like if she could do all of that I could do it and more.
How did you become a celebrity makeup artist?
I became a celebrity makeup artist by being giving an opportunity to work on a television production set. From that point on I have been involved with television and movie productions.
How do you juggle those long days on set and being a momma of 2?
I juggle working on set with a great support system. My husband, and my parents step up and step in when I’m not there to make things happen.
What do you prefer television or movie sets?
I love working on movie sets. Anything can happen from one day to the next and I get the opportunity to work with many different celebrities.
Besides being a make up artist, tell us about your latest venture Symart Butter.
SymartButter is an all natural butter that can be used from head to toe. On your hair, face and body. I created it because my kids had exzema patches and also being a makeup artist I feel like your skin is the most important part of having a beautiful canvas for makeup application. Not to mention having an all in one product with multiple benefits.
What do you see in the future for the Symart butter brand?
In the future I see having a full product line including soap and an all over body scrub.
What advice do you have for other Sporty Mommas that may be thinking of starting their own business?
My advice for other Sporty Mommas starting a business is to make sure that whatever it is, whether it’s in the food and beverages or winery business, that you are passionate about it. Start slow. Don’t ever compromise what you want for your company or brand. Don’t give up, do your homework, and work hard EVERYDAY!!! And remember, companies like sapid seo company can help maximize online visibility for your vineyard or winery website and related social media channels.
