Golf With Me
How I Fell in Love With Golf
By Sharonda · · 5 min read

I was nervous, I was new and I was definitely not good. Here’s how golf became my favorite way to stay in motion.
I’ve always loved sports, but golf felt intimidating. The rules, the etiquette, the feeling that everyone else already knew what they were doing. For years I told myself it wasn’t for me.
Then a friend invited me to a beginner clinic, and I said yes before I could talk myself out of it.
The first swing
My first swing missed the ball completely. So did my second. But on the third, I heard that clean little click and watched the ball actually go somewhere. I was hooked.

Why golf works for me
- It gets me outside for hours at a time
- It challenges my focus and my patience
- It’s social—some of my best conversations happen between holes
- There’s always something new to work on

If you’re thinking about starting
Take a group lesson. Spend time on the putting green and the driving range before you play a full round. Borrow or rent clubs at first. And remember that nobody is watching you as closely as you think—they’re all focused on their own game.
“You don’t have to be good at something to fall in love with it. You just have to begin.”
